Additional information on our program's design and rationale can be found in the MS in Pharmacy Pharmacotherapy Program Graduate Guide and in the table summarizing Specialty Residency Opportunities .

The concurrent specialized residency training and graduate education leading to the awarding of a M.S., results in synergies and efficiencies for both the student/resident and faculty:

  1. The M.S. thesis requirement of our graduate program develops research competencies. Enhanced quality assurance is insured by close faculty supervision of graduate student research and by the oversight of the Graduate Studies Committee of the College of Pharmacy.
  2. The majority of the research will be in the translational sciences and in other areas of clinical research such as pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research. The patient oriented components of our residency enhance the graduate student's sophistication in developing their research question and in applying data at the patient's bedside.
  3. Advanced practice in a specialty area requires sophisticated knowledge and skills best taught in an integrated program employing didactic, seminar, and clinical experiential components.
  4. Advanced clinical and research skills are facilitated by experiential components that combine patient care and research functions in a variety of environments where our faculty practice.
  5. A significant portion of the experiential component necessary for the development of advanced practice skills required for the awarding of a residency certificate will be outside of the degree requirements and are coordinated through the approved plan of work.

Competitive salary plus a benefits package. During the second year funding will be provided by a variety of sources including instructional funds, clinical/institutional service contracts, and research grants.

The University of Texas at Austin and its affiliated institutions are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.  Qualified women and minorities are encouraged to apply.  Security sensitive; conviction verification conducted on applicant selected.
