Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy
- Degree focuses on Clinical Sciences Research.
- Designed as an intensive educational program in the clinical, basic,
and translational sciences for candidates possessing the Pharm.D. degree and the
clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with pharmacy practice residency.
- Depending on prior education, training, experience, and area of interest,
the Ph.D. can combine varying degrees of clinical experiential components in a
specialty area complementary with the wide array of basic and translational science
coursework and laboratory components. The time to complete the Ph.D. is anticipated
to range between 3-5 years.
- Graduate education, research, and scholarly work leading to the Ph.D. are
developed for each student as part of their Plan of Work
- Designed to develop an individual who is educated and trained to conduct
translational research integrating both science and practice. The graduate has the
education, training, and skills to function as an independent researcher.
- Engage in the discovery, dissemination and application of pharmaceutical
and biomedical knowledge to improve the health status of society.
- The graduate is well prepared to assume tenure track academic and research
scientist positions.
- The graduate is prepared to assume a leadership role within the profession.
- The degree is awarded after submission of a written dissertation, and successful
defense of the student's research in front of the graduate faculty of The University of Texas
and affiliated institutions.
- The student is judged by the graduate faculty on the ability to design and carry
through work of the student's own creation, on the qualities of industry and invention, and
on the personal character and attitude expected of a person holding an advanced degree from
The University of Texas.
