Scott & White Healthcare (S&W Memorial Hospital, Clinics and Health Plan), in conjunction with the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas at Austin, offers two community pharmacy practice residency positions designed to provide training for individuals interested in ambulatory care and community pharmacy practice.
The residency provides extensive experience in an advanced clinical pharmacy practice setting. Experiential components are focused in a community pharmacy practice and in pharmacy-driven ambulatory care settings. Each resident participates in longitudinal experiences that include the following:
- management of anticoagulation patients under drug therapy protocol,
- disease state management of patients with diabetes, asthma or cardiovascular risk factors under drug therapy protocol,
- medication therapy management and
- retail pharmacy operations.
Scott & White Health Plan(SWHP) pharmacies service SWHP members as well as the general population. Immunizations, medication therapy management, and disease management are some of the professional services provided in the pharmacies. SWHP Prescription Services provides progressive, clinically oriented pharmacy services for Scott and White Health Plan and other clients. The Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White Healthcare includes 24-hour in-patient pharmacy services, the Drug Information Center, home infusion services, anticoagulation and diabetes management clinics and a wide range of clinical pharmacy services provided by Scott & White patient care pharmacists and clinical specialists.
In addition to provision of a wide array of clinically oriented patient care services, the Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White has a significant teaching/research presence within the institution. A major element of the departmental teaching mission involves offering both pharmacy practice and post-doctoral specialty residency training opportunities.
Scott & White, located in central Texas, is a 115-year-old institution that includes a 550-bed tertiary care hospital, the Scott & White Clinic in Temple, multiple regional clinics throughout central Texas, and a 200,000-member health maintenance organization (the Scott & White Health Plan).
