The University of Texas at El Paso and The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with Centro San Vicente Clinics (www.sanvicente.org) is offering a PGY1 community pharmacy practice residency experience with an emphasis in ambulatory care. This experience is designed to provide extensive and comprehensive training for individuals that have a strong interest in community and clinical pharmacy practice. Centro San Vicente is a Federally-Qualified Community Health Center designed to provide primary health care to medically underserved populations and populations who are at higher risk of experiencing health disparities.

This experience will expose the resident to pharmacy management of both Class A and Class D pharmacies, disease state management that encompasses but not limited to: Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Heart Failure, Anticoagulation, and Thyroid disorders. Other opportunities include obtaining a teaching certificate, providing health care for the homeless and rural populations, and the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurse practitioners, health educators and promotoras (community health workers).

Upon completion of training, the resident will be able to seek a pharmacy management position in a community practice, a clinical position in ambulatory care and/or seek an academic appointment.
