McLane Children's Hospital is a 112-bed pediatric facility consisting of a 14-bed Emergency Department, 4 operating rooms, a procedure suite, day surgery, 16-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), 48-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a 48-bed medical/surgical unit.  The McLane Children's Hospital is part of the Scott & White Healthcare system, which includes Scott & White Memorial Hospital, multiple regional clinics throughout Central Texas, and a 200,000-member managed care organization (the Scott & White Health Plan). Scott & White is a major academic health science center, serving as a large teaching facility for the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas at Austin, and the Rangel College of Pharmacy and the College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science Center.

The Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White provides progressive, clinically oriented pharmacy services for the hospital, clinic and health plan. Included among the major departmental functions are 24-hour in-patient pharmacy services, the Drug Information Center, home infusion services, cystic fibrosis, anticoagulation, diabetes and dyslipidemia management clinics and a wide range of clinical pharmacy services provided by Scott & White patient care pharmacists and clinical specialists. Clinical pharmacy specialists currently practice at Scott & White in a variety of specialty areas to include adult medicine, pediatrics, hematology/oncology, drug information, and ambulatory care.

In addition to provision of a wide array of clinically oriented patient care services, the Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White has a significant teaching/research presence within the institution. A major element of the departmental teaching mission involves offering both pharmacy practice and post-doctoral specialty residency training opportunities.
