The Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White provides progressive, clinically oriented pharmacy services for the hospital, clinic and health plan. Included among the major departmental functions are 24-hour in-patient pharmacy services, the Drug Information Center, home infusion services, cystic fibrosis, anticoagulation, diabetes and dyslipidemia management clinics and a wide range of clinical pharmacy services provided by Scott & White patient care pharmacists and clinical specialists. Clinical pharmacy specialists currently practice at Scott & White in a variety of specialty areas to include adult medicine, pediatrics, hematology/oncology, drug information, and ambulatory care.
In addition to provision of a wide array of clinically oriented patient care services, the Department of Pharmacy at Scott & White has a significant teaching/research presence within the institution. A major element of the departmental teaching mission involves offering both pharmacy practice and post-doctoral specialty residency training opportunities.The McLane Children's Hospital Pharmacy offers one position as a hospital based ASHP- accredited, PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency based in a pediatric facility. The program is designed to provide broad training and experience in pediatric hospital pharmacy practice. The resident spends time on NICU, Medical/Surgical and PICU teams, as well as in multiple other practice rotations and clinic settings. Opportunities for collaborative research and teaching are provided, and a research project is required. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals with an interest in pediatric hospital pharmacy.
