Biographical Sketch

Gavino A.Garza, R.Ph, has been Director of Pharmacy Operations at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, since August 1987. RGRH is a 300 bed acute care hospital with a staff of 28 in the 24 hour pharmacy. Under his leadership, the pharmacy has seen significant changes and is now recognized as a leader in clinical programs as well as automation. He received a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas, in 1981.

Mr. Garza received the Frist Humanitarian Award (Employee of the Year) for RGRH in 1987 and 2004. He is past president of the Rio Grande Valley Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and is currently serving on the advisory boards of both San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants and South Texas
Vocational Technical Institute.

Both Gavino (Gabby) and his wife Judy are Mission natives, and are active in community organizations and projects. Gavino is currently President of the Mission Boys and Girls Club and a member of the Mission Rotary Club. Gavino and Judy have four children: Karina, Gabriel, Brianna, and Jacob. Daughter Karina is enrolled in the UT-Pan American Cooperative Pharmacy Program.
