Research and Professional Interests:
During her fellowship, Dr. Bettinger evaluated physician adherence to the TMAP
depression algorithm in the "real world" setting. Dr. Bettinger has assisted
in training clinicians and staff throughout Texas and several other states on
the use of the TMAP algorithms. She also assisted in the development and
initial pilot studies involving the computerized version of TMAP, CompTMAP.
Currently, Dr. Bettinger's research interests involve the detection and treatment
of mental illnesses in the primary care setting, patient adherence, and the use of
treatment algorithms in mental health. Dr. Bettinger is involved in several
ongoing projects in the area of mental health outcomes including: evaluation of
a psychiatric pharmacy consult service; utilization, predictors and effectiveness
of antipsychotic polypharmacy; symptom profiles of children and adolescents with
ADHD, bipolar disorder or depression; and improving patient outcomes in primary
care in patients with depression and diabetes.
Dr. Bettinger received the National Institute of Mental Health's New Clinical
Drug Evaluation Unit New Investigator's Award in 2002 and the United States
Pharmacopeia Fellowship Award in 2000. She is also a recipient of the NARSAD
Young Investigator award (2003-2005).
In collaboration with other faculty in the Divisions of Pharmacy Practice and
Pharmacy Administration, Dr. Bettinger is involved in clinical training program
