Lena Malacoff
Named 2003 Recipient
of Sheffield Award

Lena Bluestein Malacoff, B.S. ‘79, has been named the 2003 recipient of the William J. Sheffield Outstanding Alumnus Award.

The Sheffield Award is the highest tribute paid to a UT Pharmacy graduate. It honors William Sheffield, longtime faculty member within the College, and it recognizes annually a graduate whose commitment to pharmacy patterns that of Dr. Sheffield. Announcement of the 2003 recipient was made at the alumni banquet held in conjunction with the Texas Pharmacy Association meeting in Galveston in July.

Malacoff, a lifetime member of the UT Pharmacy Alumni Association and a former president of the group, currently works as a retail pharmacists for Kroger in Houston.

She is active in the Texas Pharmacy Association, the Harris County Pharmacy Association and the American Pharmacy Association holding numerous offices and committee memberships. Her leadership has been most evident in her continual mentoring of pharmacy students and those new to the profession.

She was named by Harris County Pharmacy Association as Volunteer of the Year and Pharmacist of the Year in 1993 and in 2001.
One of her nominators said Lena “has the same commitment and passion for the profession of pharmacy and the University of Texas College of Pharmacy as Dr. Sheffield. Not only does she provide help when asked, but offers her assistance before being asked.”
