MEMORANDUM
TO: Clinical Practice Preceptors - San Antonio Region FROM: Dr. Leroy Knodel, Regional Director and Dr. Pam Maxwell, Clinical Coordinator SUBJECT: UT College of Pharmacy Clinical Rotation Assignments (2009-10) DATE: November 3, 2008
Approximately 30 University of Texas College of Pharmacy students will be assigned to San Antonio to begin their advanced pharmacy practice clerkships (6-weeks each) on July 6, 2009. As always, your willingness to precept UT pharmacy students is vitally important to the College of Pharmacy and for this, you have our sincere thanks.
At the bottom of this memorandum are spaces to indicate the rotations during which you would be willing to precept a UT College of Pharmacy student during their 4th professional year. Historically, clerkship 1, which occurs during the summer is the most difficult one in which to place students due in part to many preceptors taking vacation or being involved in orientation of new residents. Similarly, clerkship 4 is a difficult one for assignments because of the Thanksgiving holiday and preceptor attendance at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. If it is at all possible for you to precept a student during either of these clerkship periods, this is greatly appreciated also.
Because of the increasing complexity of managing our various educational and training programs (i.e., P4 students, University Hospital and VA Hospital pharmacy practice residents and specialty residents, College of Pharmacy residents enrolled concurrently in the M.S. Program), we are assessing your willingness and availability to precept P4 students and postgraduate residents during the upcoming year starting July 6, 2009. Since postgraduate residents typically complete month-long rotations, while our P4 students complete 6-week rotations, we are assessing your availability to precept either or both students and residents separately below.
In order to properly interpret your responses later in this memorandum, we are asking all clinical preceptors to check the most appropriate block below regarding your willingness/ability to preceptor P4 students and/or postgraduate residents.
Thank you for providing the following information:
Availability to Precept P4 Students
For each of the following rotation periods, please indicate the maximum number of P4 students (i.e., 0-3) that you would be willing to precept at your practice site.
If there are any special considerations in making Pharm.D. student assignments to your clerkship site, please indicate below:
Availability to Precept Postgraduate Residents
For each of the following rotation periods, please indicate the maximum number of postgraduate residents (i.e., 0-1) that you would be willing to precept at your practice site.
We are asking preceptors to complete this form by no later than Friday, November 21, 2008 (if possible). Once the form has been completed, click the “SUBMIT” button below. Thanks again for your valuable contributions to the educational and training programs of the UT College of Pharmacy.
