The College of Pharmacy joined the rest of the UT Austin community on Saturday, March 1 in flinging open its 11 a.m. and continued through 5 p.m. This year marks the 15th anniversary for Explore UT.
Almost as soon as the festivities began, the college courtyard as well as the second floor levels of both buildings and the third floor of the south building were alive with visitors of all ages. The always popular Hogwarts Jungle Potions Class filled quickly, but visitors also were delighted by new offerings including 3D Tour of Drugs and Drugs in the Pop Culture. Elementary-aged children were drawn to the Junior Bevo Safari Adventure featuring various games and activities while visitors hoping to see themselves as future pharmacy students learned about the application process, course and curriculum requirements and career opportunities in pharmacy in the presentation On the Trail of the Pharm.D.
Almost 400 activities were planned across the campus allowing visitors an opportunity to experience firsthand the world of discovery that is a part of daily life at the university. All events were free and open to the public.
Once again programs from the College of Pharmacy and School of Nursing will share space within the pharmacy complex.
Pharmacy and nursing students showcased their skills in providing a number of free health screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol screening, body mass index, and blood sugar screens.
As soon as Explore UT 2014 drew to a close, organizers began thinking ahead to next year's celebration scheduled for the first Saturday in March – March 7, 2015.
