Trio to Represent UT at ACCP Competition
A total of 30 Doctor of Pharmacy students participated as three-member teams in the local round of the Clinical Pharmacy Challenge competition sponsored by the American Colleges of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
With a winning score of 3750, the winning team includes Mary Karr, Jennifer Scott and Kristen Thomas, all P4 students currently in the Austin/Temple/Waco region. They will represent the UT College of Pharmacy in subsequent online rounds of this national competition in hopes of advancing to the final round that will occur during ACCP's annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico this October.
Second place honors went to a P4 team from San Antonio that included Nicole Casciello, Molly Curran and Tony Vu who trailed the winning team by only one question. Third place went to Ravi Davuluri, Justine Wang, and Philip Dolin, all P4 students from the Austin/Temple/Waco region.
Dr. Chris Frei coordinated the local faculty liaison for the competition. UT faculty members who served as hosts for the event including Drs. Frei,. Rania Kattura, Debbie Lopez, Holli Temple, and Yasar Tasnif.
The competition is set around a quiz bowl type format. Each round consists of questions offered in three segments including trivia/lightning, clinical case, and jeopardy-style quizzing. Colleges of Pharmacy are eligible to enter one team in the competition. This first local round was to select the UT Austin representative to the national competition. The second round will be conducted in September.
