Drug Information Service
The Drug Information Service (DIS), located in the Briscoe Medical Library, was established more than 25 years ago as an academic and consultative endeavor of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). The mission of the DIS is to promote optimal patient drug therapy through the provision of accurate, comprehensive, evidence-based drug information to health care providers.
Drug Information Alerts
The DIS offers Drug Information Alerts, periodic postings to address public health issues related to pharmacy practice. Pharm.D. students and postgraduate residents create the documents with assistance and review from an information specialist at the DIS.
The DIS serves as an educational training site for pharmacy students in their fourth professional year (P4) and for postgraduate pharmacy residents. Instruction and training of these individuals emphasize the development of advanced skills in drug information retrieval, evaluation and communication.
Dr. Leroy Knodel is director of the DIS and Dr. Veronica Young is assistant director. Dr. Jennifer Seltzer, a drug information specialist, supervises the Drug Information Alerts. The DIS is located in the Briscoe Medical Library on the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio campus.
