Explore UT scheduled for March 7
The College of Pharmacy joins the rest of The University of Texas at Austin campus on Saturday, March 7 as it flings open its doors to welcome the community to
the biggest open house in Texas, Explore UT 2009.
Events throughout the campus begin at 11 a.m. and continue through 4 p.m. A full schedule of programming is available at the Explore UT site.
Last year more than 30,000 visitors took the opportunity to visit campus for Explore UT where they experienced the university community through activities that included unraveling the mysteries of science, learning new dance steps, climbing a rock wall, and monitoring their health.
Under the theme of a pharmacy safari, a variety of pharmacy events and activities are scheduled including information targeted to prospective students, current events topics of general interest, and fun activities for the kid in all of us.
Pharmacy's schedule for the day includes:
11 AM -- 4 PM "MAPPING YOUR WAY TO A PHARMACY CAREER"
Meet with pharmacy counselors to discuss academic
choices and career opportunities in pharmacy. Come and go.
Location: Pharmacy Building Third Floor Walkway
11 AM -- 4 PM "JUNIOR BEVO SAFARI ADVENTURE"
Elementary-aged children can explore the jungle of
pharmacy through arts and games. Come and go.
Location: Pharmacy Building Courtyard
11 AM "ON THE TRAIL OF THE PHARM.D. --
A TREK TOWARDS EXCELLENCE"

Learn about the application process, course and
curriculum requirements, and career opportunities
in pharmacy.

11 AM "CULTURAL IMPACT ON DRUG AND
ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS"
Explore the impact of cultural beliefs and attitudes
On medication taking behavior.
Location: Pharmacy Building 3.106 (Third Floor)
12 NOON "HOGWARTS JUNGLE POTIONS CLASS"
(repeats at 1, 2 and 3 PM)
Visit with Harry Potter and the rest of the Hogwarts
students to learn how medicines are prepared. You will
also be invited to compound your own pharmaceutical
products. For all ages.

1 PM "PHARMACY JUNGLE BAZAAR"
Talk with pharmacy students about their
community service and research projects. Student
organizations display college memorabilia and
displays that outline their community outreach programs
as well as professional and social activities.

1 PM "UPPERS, DOWNERS AND MERRY--GOROUNDERS"
Take a new look at illicit drugs, their effects on
society, and what we can do about them.
Location: Pharmacy Building 2.114 (Second Floor)
1 PM "FAKE DRUGS: BAD MEDICINE FOR THE U.S."
Learn about the issues associated with counterfeit
drugs entering U.S. markets.
