UTSSHP in National Spotlight
The UT Student Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists chapter is gaining some national attention thanks to its selection as a featured student chapter on the homepage of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
On the student forum homepage of the ASHP site, the UT College of Pharmacy is the featured program under the "In the Spotlight"section. Included in the showcase is a section outlining the unique aspect of the UT chapter. The report reads:
"Our student society recently started several unique committee projects that provide members meaningful ways to improve our profession while attending pharmacy school. First, the Antibiotics Awareness Committee works to increase knowledge of the proper use and storage of antibiotics in the community. This committee idea will also be expanded into a statewide project for all TSHP student societies. Second, the Medication Safety Committee is developing a best practices document and poster to promote awareness of this important issue. Finally, the Nutrition Committee educates parents and children on healthy lifestyles to minimize health care risks. Our ultimate goal is to encourage collaboration between all of the committees in their outreach to the Austin community."
The UT chapter was selected for the month-long recognition based upon its achievement in three focus areas including membership recruiting, career development and professional development.
