Center for Pharmacoeconomic Studies

Mission

In response to the growing concern about the costs of pharmaceutical products and services, the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy has developed the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Studies.

This Center resides within the Drug Dynamics Institute of the College and is comprised of faculty and researchers who have a keen interest in clinical, humanistic, and economic outcomes research. The purpose of the Center is to conduct pharmacoeconomic research, to assist others in this area, and to provide educational programs on pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research.

Objectives

To examine the impact of pharmaceutical services and products on patients' quality of life and health care outcomes through cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, cost-utility, and cost-minimization analyses.

To serve as a bridge in bringing together the Center's researchers with researchers and managers from the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacy benefit managers, managed care payers and providers, group purchasing organizations, clinical research organizations, pharmacy organizations and associations, health care institutions, and other academic institutions.

To provide expertise in the areas of study design, methodology, data collection, analysis and interpretation for pharmacoeconomic studies, including the evaluation of procedural or policy changes.

To provide an environment where clinical pharmacy providers and scientists can work with researchers from the areas of economics, management, and marketing.

To disseminate scholarly findings.

To develop, present, and support educational programs furthering the understanding of pharmacoeconomics.
