Kristin Richards earned a B.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. She joined the UT College of Pharmacy Center for Pharmacoeconomic Studies in 2001.

Research Interests:

Dr. Richards is interested in patterns of drug utilization including generic drug use and adherence issues. She is interested in the relationships among health care providers, utilizers, and payers and how health care policies affect these groups. She has conducted work on drug importation from Mexico. In fact, findings from her research in Laredo, TX and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico were instrumental in leading to the US ban of the"date rape drug" Rohypnol® in 1997. Dr. Richards updates and maintains a large database containing drug prices of prescription medications from Canadian Internet pharmacies dating back to January 2005. She enjoys secondary data analysis and has experience working with large datasets (e.g., Texas Medicaid prescription drug claims, NHIS).
