Fineg Receives Distinguished Service Award
Fineg is the retired founding director of the UT Animal Research Center. During his more than 30 year tenure, he had primary responsibility for taking a campus research animal program that had no permanent clinical veterinarian into the modern era of specialized animal facilities. Prior to his association with UT, he served in the U.S. Air Force Veterinary Corps where he played a primary role in the early days of aerospace biology and was recognized for his research with chimpanzees and the Project Mercury chimpanzee space flights. Fineg has served as president of both the national and Texas branch of AALAS and as president of the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association. He has been a member and site visitor for the Board of Trustees of the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, Intl. where he served as the representative for the pharmaceutical industry. He has been an active member and officer for the Texas Society for Biomedical Research.
