- Goal is to raise $1,000 to purchase brick for newly renovated APhA building
- Deadline is tentatively set for March 2007 (if not, then by end of academic
year)

- What SPIN does:
- Educate members on current legislative affairs and increase member involvement
in legislative activities

- Resolutions voted on and passes:
- #1 - Subject: Mandatory mail-order medications as ordered from Prescription
Benefit Plans
- Motion: APhA-ASP encourages prescription benefit plans with mail-order
options to purchase medications from any pharmacy that is contracted
with the plan
- Current Resolution: APhA-ASP opposes any actions that compromise a
patient's choice of where to receive pharmacy services with equal benefits,
co-pays, and access to patient care
- #2 - Subject: Pharmacist role in Public Health Advocacy
- Motion: APhA -ASP encourages community pharmacies to serve as patient
education centeres through the distribution of patient education information
in the form of pamphlets, videotapes, online information, etc....at
a level appropriate for patient comprehension
- Current Resolutions:
- APhA-ASP encourages the active participation of pharmacists in health
awareness programs for the purpose of educating the public
- APhA-ASP encourages all pharmacy practice sites to provide immediate
access to the internet, Web-based applications, and other forms of
information technology that enhance patient care
- #3 - Subject: Drug Importation
- Motion: APhA-ASP encourages patients who purchase medications through
internet pharmacies to use only VIPPS® (Verified Internet Pharmacy
Pracitice Sites) accreditied pharmacies
- #4 - Subject: Pseudoephedrive Policy concerning Pharmacists
- Motion: APhA-ASP encourages state boards of pharmacy to create centralized
databases to help pharmacy personnel adhere to pseudoephedrine regulations
- Current Resolutions:
- APhA-ASP supports uniform legislation that monitors and regulates
the sale of non-prescription drug products used in teh production
of illegal substances with the potential for abuse such as pseudoephedrine-containing
products used for making methamphetamine
- AphA-ASP supports legislative, regulatory, and private sector efforts
that balance the need for patient/consumer access to medications for
legitimate medical purposes with the need to prevent diversion and
abuse
