Jesse H. Jones Communication Center, Building A, 2504-A Whitis Avenue

Occurred on 9-5-02.

Attempted Theft: On 9-5-02 at 9:30 pm two UT students observed a non-UT subject attempting to cut the cable that secured a bicycle to a handrail in the service drive. Both students stood in the area "to try to get the subject to leave." One student eventually called UT Police but subject had left the area before UT Police arrived. On 9-5-02 at 11:30 pm, Austin Police arrested this subject at 4th and Colorado while he was attempting to steal another bicycle.

Parking Lot 80, 1900 Red River

Occurred on 9-5-02 at 3:05 a.m.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on a bench on the south end of the Parking Lot. Subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Occurred on 9-5-02 at 12:15 p.m.

Con / Bunco Scam: Two unknown subjects stopped a UT student and offered to sell him two large stereo speakers that were in the back of a silver or white Ford Expedition. Subjects were described as a white male and a black male (no other description.) Five non-UT subjects have been identified by UT Police using a white 2000/2001 Ford Expedition to sell stereo speakers since November 2001. Subjects frequent Parking Lot 99, 2000 Red River and Whitaker Field (Intramural Fields), 5100 Guadalupe. Subjects tell victims they work for a company that bought too many high quality name brand speakers and they are selling them at a major discount. Victims later find out that the cartons the speakers come in have computer-generated labels and the speakers are way below market standards and are of third rate quality.

Parking Lot 104, 1900 North IH-35

Occurred on 9-5-02 at 11:30 p.m.

Driving While Intoxicated: A UT student observed a motor vehicle drive into the south entrance of the Parking Lot, take the first left turn in the lot, bounce off the south curbline twice and then drive into a parking space on the west curbline while almost hitting a vehicle parked on the left side of parking space. UT Police found a non-UT subject in the driver's seat slumped over the left side of the steering wheel asleep with the vehicle's engine still running. Subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was an endangerment to herself.

Robert Lee Moore Hall, 2515 Speedway

Occurred on 9-5-02 at 2:45 a.m.

Burglary of Coin Operated Machine: A non-UT subject observed an unknown subject attempting to break into a Dasani bottled water vending machine that was located on the east side of the building. The offender was using a claw hammer and was prying on the door. The witness asked the offender "what's going on" and then proceeded inside to call UT Police. Offender was described as a white male, mid twenties, 5'9", 165 lbs with short red hair that was possibly in a crew cut. Subject had a one or two day growth of facial hair. Subject was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts. Repair cost: $200.00.

T. U. Taylor Hall, #8 East Mall

Occurred between 9-4-02 at 7:30 p.m. and 9-5-02 at 7:00 a.m.

Burglary: An Apple Macintosh G4 was stolen from a classroom on the second floor when the cable that was securing it to a podium was cut. Loss value: $2000.00.
