SCAM ALERT

A report was received in which an unidentified caller telephoned a UT Staff member and advised her she had been awarded a government grant in the amount of $8,000.00. The caller knew the staff member's unpublished home address and proceeded to ask for the staff member's bank information. The staff member refused to give the caller her bank account number. The caller attempted to downplay the importance of the bank account number by advising the staff member her bank account number was printed on every check she issued. The staff member again refused to give her bank account number. This type of scam resurfaces periodically. The caller attempts to procure your personal information and bank account information. With such information, the caller will steal your identity, empty out your bank accounts, open fictitious checking accounts and obtain credit card accounts in your good name. Do not let this happen to you. NEVER provide your personal or financial information to people who call you and request it.
