Jesse H. Jones Communication Center, Building A, 2504 Whitis Avenue
Occurred between 1-20-05 at 5:30 p.m. and 1-21-05 at 7:30 a.m.
Burglary: A sliding glass service window in a 2nd floor office was removed from its track in order to gain entry into the office. $66.00 cash was stolen from a cash box located inside a secured file cabinet inside the office. Repair cost: $75.00. Loss value: $66.00.
Nursing School, 1710 Red River
Occurred on 1-21-05 at 4:05 p.m.
Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found near the entrance to the building. The subject had visited an acquaintance of his who is a Nursing School staff member in violation of a protective order. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.
Parking Lot 103, 2100 Comal Street
Occurred between 1-19-05 at 2:00 p.m. and 1-21-05 at 1:45 p.m.
Burglary of a Vehicle: A pair of brown Polo dress shoes, a black GAP jacket and a blue Chaps jacket were stolen from an unsecured white 1997 Honda 2-door. Loss value: $125.00.
Parking Lot 104, 1900 North IH-35
Occurred between 1-18-05 at 10:36 p.m. and 1-21-05 at 7:30 p.m.
Burglary of a Vehicle: A blue portable compact disc player, a lug nut wrench, jumper cables, a Brave Heart compact disc, a flashlight and $14.00 in cash were stolen from an unsecured 1998 Honda while it was parked in the lot. Loss value: $50.00.
Parking Lot 117, 1900 Comal Street
Discovered on 1-24-05 at 2:00 a.m.
Criminal Mischief: The left rear window was broken out of a red 2004 Saturn Ion 4-door while the vehicle was parked in the Parking Lot. At this time, it is unknown if anything was stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00.
Parking Lot 117, 1900 Comal Street
Discovered 1-24-05 at 2:00 a.m.
Burglary of a Vehicle: The left rear window was broken out of a red 2002 Honda 4-door. A Panasonic AM/FM/CD stereo was stolen form the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Loss value: $125.00.
Peter T. Flawn Academic Center, #2 West Mall
Occurred between 1-21-05 at 1:00 p.m. and 1-22-05 at 3:00 a.m.
Graffiti: A black permanent marker was used to write words on a display board located on the West Mall just south of the library. Removal cost: $50.00.
2000 Robert Dedman Drive
Occurred on 1-21-05 between 9:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.
Leaving the Scene Collision: An unidentified vehicle struck the right front bumper of a parked 1998 Dodge Avenger. The driver of the vehicle left the scene without leaving notice. Repair cost: $300.00.
San Jacinto Residence Hall, 309 East 21st Street
Occurred on 1-21-05 at 10:22 p.m.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT student was found in his 2nd floor dormitory room while in possession of a 3" long brown leather and wood pipe containing burned marijuana residue in the bowl of the pipe.
San Jacinto Street at Duval
Occurred on 1-23-05 at 1:16 a.m.
Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): Two UT students, who were both under the age of 21, were found swaying while standing in a grassy area north of the intersection. One of the subjects was reported to have yelled, "Stop moving, don't move, there is a cop!" Both subjects were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages.
Simkins Hall Dormitory, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd.
Occurred on 1-23-05 at 8:45 p.m.
Criminal Trespass: A UT student, who is not a resident of the dormitory, was reported as causing a disturbance by "beating" on the 2nd floor dormitory room door of a former acquaintance of hers. The student had committed the same disturbance in the past. The student was issued a written criminal trespass warning.
Union Building, #4 West Mall
Occurred on 1-21-05 between 9:00 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.
Graffiti: Black permanent marker was used to write a word on a wall located inside a 1st floor men's restroom. Removal cost: $40.00.
Walter Webb Hall, 2500 Guadalupe
Occurred between 1-22-05 at 12:10 a.m. and 1-23-05 at 2:00 a.m.
Criminal Mischief: A copper letter "C" was partially torn from the south exterior wall of the building. Repair cost: $100.00.
400 West 24th Street
Occurred on 1-23-05 at 5:05 a.m.
Public Intoxication: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was found stumbling in the roadway. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was a physical endangerment to herself.
300 West 27th Street
Occurred 1-21-05 at 12:38 a.m.
Robbery / Weapons Prohibited / Criminal Mischief / Evading / Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Two non-UT subjects approached a female subject from behind and pulled her purse off of her shoulder before they fled from the area on foot. Two UT students who were with the victim pursued the two purse snatchers to a parked vehicle that the purse snatchers attempted to enter. One of the UT students presented an illegal knife and ordered the purse snatchers to stay still until the police arrived. The purse snatchers gave the purse up and continued to flee. Not wanting the purse snatchers to return and leave in the vehicle, the UT student with the knife proceeded to deflate air from three of the vehicle's four tires. The two purse snatchers were later found walking on San Jacinto Blvd. Both subjects fled into the Alumni Center parking garage when the officer attempted to stop them. A paper bag containing rolling papers and 0.12 ounces of marijuana was found inside the purse snatchers' parked and immobile vehicle.
Occurred at various times.
Noncriminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, UTPD responded to 38 alarm calls, 6 unsecured door reports, 1 welfare concern call, 2 collision reports, 3 public assist calls, 1 medical emergency call and 4 suspicious activity reports between 1-20-05 and 1-24-05.
