Occurred between 4-16-05 at 2:00 a.m. and 4-18-05 at 9:00 a.m.
Theft: A black HARO Vector bicycle with a blue crate attached to a book rack over the rear wheel was stolen while it was secured with a cable lock to a bicycle rack on the north side of the building. Loss value: $100.00.
Crime Prevention Tip
Cable locks provide a little more than minimal protection for any property (bicycles / laptop computers etc.) A thief with a pair of wire cutters can easily cut through a cable lock. The University of Texas at Austin Police Department's minimum recommendation is the use of a u-lock which uses a standard or flat key. Do not get a u-lock that has a round key hole as those locks can also be defeated with minimal effort.

Gregory Gymnasium, 2101 Speedway
Occurred on 4-19-05 at 6:30 p.m.
Criminal Trespass: Gymnasium staff members reported a non-UT subject who was "causing problems." Gregory Gym staff members asked the subject to leave prior to the arrival of a police officer. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Occurred on 4-19-05 at 7:26 p.m.
Theft: A UT student observed another UT student walk around the 2nd floor basketball courts. The first UT student then watched the second student as the second student began to look at an unattended wallet by one of the basketball courts. The first student reported that the second student had stolen money from the wallet. The first student confronted the second student who gave the money to the first student. The money was returned to the owner. Recovery value: $26.00.
Crime Prevention Tip
All too often, faculty, staff and student members leave their property unattended and unsecured while they engage in workout activities. They usually believe their property will not be stolen because they are in the same room. A thief only needs a second to walk away with your property while you are in the middle of a lay-up, a volley, a lap around the track or a repetition in the weight room. Make sure your property is secured while you are working out and always try to limit the amount of property you take with you to the gym.

Occurred on 4-20-05 at 1:15 a.m.
Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for driving a Ford pick-up truck more then 90 MPH in a posted 50 MPH zone. The subject was also observed weaving back and forth crossing several traffic lanes. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. An open bottle tequila was found inside the vehicle.

Discovered on 4-19-05 at 10:54 a.m.
Graffiti: White paint was used to write words on three metal handrails on the southeast exterior stairs. Removal cost: $35.00.

Occurred between 4-12-05 at 2:30 p.m. and 4-13-05 at 3:30 p.m.
Theft: A Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera was stolen from an unsecured 1st floor office. Loss value: $870.00.
1900 University Avenue
Occurred on 4-20-05 at 4:30 a.m.
Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject who was standing in a manner that, based on the officer's "training and experience," made the officer believe the subject was performing a bodily function in a public place. Evidence to confirm the officer's suspicion was located on the ground. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for a camping charge.

Noncriminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, UTPD responded to 11 alarm calls, 4 unsecured door reports, 2 public assist reports, 1 medical emergency call, 1 collision report, 2 welfare concern reports and 2 suspicious activity reports between 4-19-05 and 4-20-05.
