Ashbell Smith Hall, 201 West 7th Street

Occurred on 5-15-05 between 2:45 a.m. and 3:15 a.m.

Criminal Trespass: A guard officer reported observing a non-UT subject riding a bicycle on the plaza and smoking a cigarette which emitted an odor of marijuana. The subject was not in possession of marijuana when police officers stopped the subject. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall, 301 East Dean Keeton

Reported on 5-15-05 at 2:10 a.m.

Criminal Mischief: A wall mounted handrail to the exterior stairs located on the northwest side of the building was removed from the wall. Repair cost: $200.00.

Geography Building, 210 West 24th Street

Occurred between 4-29-05 and 5-13-05 at 10:00 a.m.

Theft: A JVC DVD/VCR combo recorder was stolen from an unsecured 4th floor classroom while it was secured to a podium with a cable lock and a metal mounting bracket. Loss value: $100.00.

Beauford H. Jester Center West, 201 East 21st Street

Discovered on 5-15-05 at 3:45 a.m.

Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject smeared cheese sauce on the exterior side of a 9th floor dormitory room door. Removal cost: $3.00.

Geology Building, #10 East Mall

Occurred on 5-15-05 at 11:45 p.m.

Attempted Theft: An unknown device was used to cut two security cables to a Dell computer monitor located inside an unsecured 2nd floor room. Repair cost: $50.00.

Parking Lot 19, 1700 Red River

Occurred on 5-16-05 at 5:54 a.m.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping in the Parking Lot. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Peter T. Flawn Academic Center, #2 West Mall

Occurred on 5-15-05 at 10:10 p.m.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping in the periodicals area of the 1st floor. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

2700 San Jacinto Blvd.

Occurred on 5-14-05 at 2:35 a.m.

Driving While Intoxicated / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for speeding and running a stop sign while driving a white sport utility vehicle. The subject stated he had "quite a bit" to drink. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. The subject was also found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for theft by check and failure to appear in court.

Simkins Hall Dormitory, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd.

Occurred on 5-23-05 at 11:45 p.m.

Burglary (Habitation) / Criminal Trespass (Habitation) / Possession of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A non-UT subject entered the open door to a 1st floor dormitory room and asked the resident for money as the subject's car had been towed. When the resident refused the subject left the dormitory room. The resident realized the subject had stolen his wallet. The subject continued to ask other resident's for money and convinced one resident to give him a "ride home." While showing police officers where he dropped the subject off, the resident positively identified the subject walking in the 1800 block of Salina. The subject was found to be in possession of the stolen wallet, 5 pieces of crack cocaine and a 4" long glass tube with burn marks on one end of the tube.

Crime Prevention Tip

  • Do not allow people entrance into secured areas by allowing them to follow you through a card reader controlled door.
  • Keep your dormitory room doors locked at all times — even if you are in your room.
  • Never give a ride to someone you do not know.

Simkins Hall Dormitory, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd.

Occurred on 5-11-05.

Theft: An Apple iPod was stolen when it was left in an unsecured basement level study room. Loss value: $100.00.

200 East 21st Street

Occurred on 5-13-05 at 3:00 a.m.

Public Intoxication / Resisting Arrest: A UT student was found "unconscious and slumped over on his right side" while seated at a bus stop. The student was difficult to awaken and was unable to state his name, location or date and time of day. The student refused to comply with the police officer's directions and placed his arms under his body after lying down on his stomach. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself.

Union Building, #4 West Mall

Occurred on 5-14-05 at 5:48 p.m.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on a chair in a 3rd floor area reserved for faculty, staff and students. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Campus Wide

Occurred at various times.

Noncriminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, UTPD responded to 41 alarm calls, 7 unsecured door reports, 7 suspicious activity reports, 1 stuck elevator report, 2 medical emergency calls, 3 found property reports and 11 public assist requests between 5-13-05 and 5-16-05.
