Safety Tip

Numerous animal bites occur each year on The University of Texas Campus. Many of those cases happened just as this one did: a squirrel bit a subject while they were feeding it. Remember: squirrels, like other wild animals, can be unpredictable and dangerous. Enjoy our campus squirrels from afar — never draw them to you by offering food.

Brackenridge Apartments, 3350-3577 Lake Austin

Occurred on 5-24-05 between 1:46 a.m. and 4:34 a.m.

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle: The left front window was broken out of a Mazda Protegé 4-door while it was parked on Lufkin Street. A Panasonic AM/FM/CD stereo with a removable faceplate and 5 music compact discs were stolen from the vehicle. Repair cost: $150.00. Loss value: $260.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

If your car's stereo has a removable faceplate, then take it with you when you leave your car. Do not make it easy for the thief — they would have to find a replacement faceplate to sell or use the stolen stereo. Never leave any property inside your vehicle. Compact disks have a resale value of 3 to 5 dollars per CD. It costs a thief nothing to break into your car — any stolen property yields a profit.
