Chemical and Petroleum Engineering , 200 East Dean Keeton

Occurred on 6-16-05 between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Theft: A purse containing a tan mesh coin purse with $20.00 cash, a credit card, a debit card and a driver license was stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor office. The purse was later located in the basement landing of the east stairwell. The coin purse and its contents had been stolen from the purse. Loss value: $23.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

The purse in this case was found in the stairwell before the victim knew it had been stolen. The time frame for the theft was one hour. Keeping your property secure requires vigilance. The first thing you should do when you arrive at your office is secure your purse, backpack and/or briefcase in a lockable desk drawer. Never leave your office unattended and unsecured, regardless of how long you expect to be gone.

Gregory Gymnasium, 2101 Speedway

Occurred on 6-14-05 between 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Theft / Theft of Service: A silver Samsung cellular telephone in a black leather case was stolen when it was left inside Gregory Gym. The owner of the telephone called his telephone number and spoke with an unidentified subject who stated he found the telephone and would return the telephone for $50.00. The subject had used the telephone to make unauthorized telephone calls and wireless downloads. Loss value: $50.00.

Geology Building, #10 East Mall

Reported 6-15-05 at 7:30 a.m.

Theft: A Bose 502B subwoofer was stolen while it was secured with a cable lock to the floor inside a 2nd floor classroom. Loss value: $500.00.

Robert Lee Moore Hall, 2515 Speedway

Occurred on 6-15-05 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Theft: A black and silver colored cellular telephone was stolen when it was left on a countertop in an occupied 4th floor office. A suspicious subject was observed in the area during the time frame of the theft. The subject was described as a black male wearing red shorts and a white sleeveless t-shirt. Loss value: $75.00.

Robert Lee Moore Hall, 2515 Speedway

Occurred on 6-16-05 between 8:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Theft: A blue colored Jansport backpack containing a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured 12th floor office. Loss value: $1,500.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

This theft took less than 15 minutes and it was within 3 hours of another theft inside the same building. If this building had a building-wide e-mail notification system, the employee in the previous theft case could have sent an e-mail message detailing the theft. If that had occurred, the victim in this case may not have left his office unsecured.

Discovered on 6-17-05 at 2:15 a.m.

Graffiti: A silver paint pen was used to write a word on two different street light poles. Removal cost: $50.00.

2300 San Jacinto Blvd.

Occurred on 6-17-05 at 2:25 a.m.

Assist Outside Agency: A UT student was stopped for disregarding a stop sign while driving a 2000 Mazda 4-door. The student was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for speeding.

T. U. Taylor Hall, #8 East Mall

Occurred between 6-14-05 at 7:30 a.m. and 6-15-05 at 7:30 a.m.

Union Building, #4 West Mall

Occurred on 6-16-05 at 7:38 p.m.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found in a 3rd floor area that is reserved for faculty, staff and students. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

University of Texas Elementary School, 2200 East 6th Street

Occurred on 6-16-05 at 2:25 p.m.

Criminal Trespass: Two non-UT subjects were found loitering on the north side of the school. Both subjects were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. Both subjects were issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Occurred at various times.

Noncriminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, UTPD responded to 4 alarm calls, 4 unsecured doors, 3 public assist requests, 2 suspicious activity reports and 1 light survey between 6-16-05 and 6-17-05.
