During the time frame of the theft, the owner left the backpack on a bench inside a 1st floor men's locker room while the owner used the locker room facilities for less than a minute. After using the facilities, the owner secured the backpack inside a locker. Loss value: $660.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

Did this theft occur when the backpack was left unattended for under a minute, or was a substandard lock defeated? It could have been either scenario. You should never leave your property unattended. If you use a locker to secure your property, make sure you are using a high quality lock. UTPD recommends a keyed padlock over a combination padlock. If you must use a combination padlock, then make sure it has a heel-toe locking shackle. You should never carry your social security card with you.
