Jesse H. Jones Communication Center, 2504-B Whitis

Occurred between 8-8-05 at 4:00 PM and 8-9-05 at 10:00 AM.

Theft: A grey Nikon camera case containing a Nikon CoolPix camera was stolen from a 7th floor office. Loss value: $410.00.

Mary E. Gearing Hall, 200 West 24th Street

Occurred between 8-4-05 and 8-7-05.

Theft / Credit Card Abuse: A credit card, a Seiko wristwatch, a black windbreaker and a black cloth bag were stolen from a 3rd floor office. A total of $1,159.00 in unauthorized charges had been made on the credit card prior to the card being cancelled. Loss value: $100.00.

Service Building, 304 East 24th Street

Occurred between 7-20-05 and 8-9-05 at 2:00 PM.

Theft: A Yamaha YG 2800I portable generator was stolen while it was secured with a chain and keyed pad lock inside a 5 high fence tool storage cage located in the outdoor loading dock to the building. Loss value: $1,180.00.

Crime Prevention Tip:

Any enclosure to secure property is only as good as its weakest point. In this case, the 5 high fence used to store tools does not have a roof. By placing a roof on such an enclosure, you can prevent someone from easily climbing over the fence or simply reaching into the storage area to remove items.

Will C. Hogg Building, #2 East Mall

Occurred on 8-8-05 between 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Theft: $41.00 in cash and a credit card were stolen out of a wallet that was left in a purse located in an unsecured 2nd floor office. The owner left the office door closed, but not locked, for approximately 20 minutes. Loss value: $41.00.

Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 alarm calls, 1 unsecured door report, 1 suspicious activity report, 1 light survey, 2 motor vehicle collisions and 2 calls for service between 8-09-05 and 8-10-05.
