Theft: A black Trek bicycle was stolen when it was left unsecured in a bicycle mount on the roof of a Volvo X40 while the car was parked in the Parking Lot. Loss value: $300.00.

Crime Prevention Tip

A thief will spend time to cut a lock from a bicycle rack to steal your bicycle the same thief will think nothing of stealing your unsecured bicycle from a bicycle mount attached to your vehicle. If your vehicles bicycle mount can not be locked, then make sure you remove your bicycle from the vehicle mount and secure the bicycle to a bicycle rack. The owner of this bicycle did not know the bicycles model name or serial number. Without that information, it is difficult to locate and recover a stolen bicycle. To aid in the recovery of your bicycle, register your bicycle with the UT Parking and Transportation Office. This service is required; it is free of charge and can be done on-line at: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/bicycle_register.html
