Administrative Message

With the start of 2006, please take a moment to read the attached document containing what some of us thought were the best entries of the 2005 Campus Watch. Please let us know which one was your favorite.

Ashbell Smith Hall, 201 West 7th Street

Occurred on 12-24-05 at 3:40 AM.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found crawling in the bushes on the east side of the building. The subject was looking for a place to sleep. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Blanton Dormitory, 2500 University

Discovered on 1-1-06 at 7:45 AM.

Graffiti: A black permanent marker was used to write words on north and east exterior walls of the dormitory. Removal cost: $50.00.

Brackenridge Apartments, 3500 Lake Austin Blvd

Occurred on 12-30-05 between 2:30 PM and 7:00 PM.

Leaving the Scene Collision: The left side of a green Toyota Camry was struck by an unidentified vehicle while the Camry was parked by building 3569. The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene without leaving driver information. White or silver paint was transferred from the striking vehicle to the Camry. Repair cost: $300.00.

Clark Field, 300 East 21st Street

Occurred on 12-27-05 at 2:00 AM.

Public Intoxication (substance) / Assault on a Peace Officer: A non-UT subject activated the Police Help emergency call box and reported being assaulted. The responding officer arrived to find the subject walking away from the call box. The subject stated she had been assaulted in November of 2006. The subject had obvious physical signs of being under the influence of an illicit substance. The subject stated she was walking to a hospital and invited the officer to walk with her. While at the hospital, the subject became verbally abusive toward a hospital employee and eventually threw a pencil at the employee before leaving the hospital. Medical professionals advised the subject had no physical signs of an assault. The officer stopped the subject outside of the hospital where the subject used her fingernails to take a blood specimen from the officers arm.

Colorado Apartments, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd

Occurred on 12-22-05 between 9:15 AM and 6:00 PM.

Attempted Burglary / Criminal Mischief: An unknown object was used to make pry marks near the deadbolt to the door of an apartment in building C. The doors turn handle was also damaged to the point it rotated freely. The deadbolt was not defeated. Repair cost: $75.00.

Dorothy L. Gebauer Building, #4 East Mall

Discovered on 12-29-05 at 9:48 AM.

Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject(s) used a rock to make a small hole in a ground floor window located on the north side of the building. Repair cost: $100.00.

Experimental Science Building, 100 East 24th Street

Discovered on 12-30-05 at 3:18 AM.

Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject(s) used a piece of concrete to make a hole in a ground floor window located on the west side of the building. Repair cost: $100.00.

Garrison Hall, #3 East Mall

Discovered on 12-28-05 at 3:15 AM.

Graffiti: Purple paint and a black permanent marker were used to draw the same logo on two different walls located inside a basement level mens restroom. Removal cost: $40.00.

Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway

Reported on 12-23-05 at 1:03 PM.

Theft: A Visa credit card and $80 in cash was stolen from an unsecured locker located inside a 1st floor mens locker room while the owner was in the locker room showers. The owner observed a suspicious subject in the area prior to the owner entering the shower. The owner advised the subject entered and exited the locker room several times and was observed shoving things into his pants. The subject was described as a black male subject, approximately 57 tall and 220 pounds. The subject was last seen wearing dark colored pants and a white long sleeve shirt. Loss value: $80.00.

Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway

Occurred on 12-30-05 between 12:49 PM and 1:05 PM.

Theft: A black polyester wallet, $20.00 cash, a credit card, a blue Sanyo cell phone, a key ring containing three keys and an key access card were stolen from an unsecured locker located inside a 1st floor locker room while the owner took a shower. Loss value: $110.00.

Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway

Occurred on 12-27-05 between 12:15 PM and 5:20 PM.

Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject(s) used a rock to break a glass insert in an exterior door located on the second floor northwest entrance to the gymnasium. Repair cost: $100.00.

Jester Center East, 203 East 21st Street

Occurred on 12-26-05 at 5:20 PM.

Criminal Trespass: Two non-UT subjects were seen kneeling over a bicycle secured to a bicycle rack located on the west side of the dormitory. When the subject observed a police officer watching them, they quickly rode away on two different bicycles. One of the two subjects was stopped for operating the bicycle on a sidewalk. That subjects riding partner decided to leave the area on a black BMX style bicycle. The stopped subject stated he had secured his bicycle to a campus bicycle rack because he believed it would be safer on campus obviously this subject does not read the Campus Watch. A second officer found two cut bicycle locks near the bicycle racks where the two subjects had been seen. The subject who was stopped was found to have previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. That subject identified his riding partner by first name as Brandon. Brandon is described as a white or a Hispanic male, approximately 56 tall with a thin build, wearing a black hat, a black sleeveless t-shirt red shorts and a Jansport backpack.

Jester Center West, 201 East 21st Street

Occurred on 12-30-05 at 9:00 PM.

Criminal Trespass (2 counts): Two non-UT subjects were reported as looking at the bicycles secured to bicycle racks located on the south side of the dormitory. One of the two subjects is a known bicycle thief who had previously been issued a written criminal trespass warning. The second subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

O. Henry Hall, 601 Colorado

Occurred on 12-25-05 at 10:05 PM.

Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on the west side of the building. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself.

Parking Lot 88, 400 East 23rd Street

Occurred on 12-28-05 between 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM.

Burglary of Motor Vehicle: An unknown object was used to puncture the lock to a tool box located inside the bed of a white Chevrolet pick-up truck while the truck was parked in the Parking Lot. A Milwaukee circular saw, a Milwaukee drill motor and a pair of bolt cutters were stolen from the tool box. A witness observed seeing a subject reach into the pick-up trucks bed and remove the toolbox at 2:00 PM on 12-28-05. That subject was described as a white male in his 40s, approximately 59 tall, 200 pounds, balding and wearing a white t-shirt. The witness observed the subject leave the area in a grey 1989 Ford pick-up truck with red letters on the tailgate of the truck. Repair cost: $30.00. Loss value: $450.00.

Parking Lot 104, 1900 North IH-35

Discovered on 12-24-05 at 3:54 PM.

Criminal Mischief: The left front window was broken out of a Jeep Cherokee while the vehicle was parked in the Parking Lot. An unknown object was used to damage the vehicles dashboard. The vehicle was missing its in-dash stereo system. At this time, the owner of the vehicle has not been contacted. Loss value: Undetermined at this time. Repair cost: $150.00.

Parking Lot 104, 1900 North IH-35

Occurred on 1-1-06 at 2:25 AM.

Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped after pulling out of a parking space and idling in a lane of traffic. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated.

Parking Lot 104, 1900 North IH-35

Occurred on 12-31-05 at 11:28 PM.

Assist Outside Agency: Two non-UT subjects were observed exiting the west side of the Parking Lot. Both subjects changed their direction of travel on two occasions before waiving their hands in the air in an attempt to get the attention of the police officer. The subjects stated they had been arguing with each other and were headed in a direction opposite of their current direction of travel. One of the two subjects was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for robbery.

Russell A. Steindam Hall, #7 East Mall

Occurred on 1-1-06 at 1:10 AM.

Driving While Intoxicated / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Open Container in a Vehicle: A UT Police officer observed a grey Ford pick-up truck pull out of the service drive to the building, drive around a traffic circle and pull back into the service drive of the closed building. The officer stopped the vehicle and discovered it was occupied by two non-UT subjects who were both under the age of 21. The driver of the vehicle was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. The passenger of the vehicle was also found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. An open bottle of rum was found inside the vehicle.

San Antonio Garage, 2420 San Antonio

Occurred on 12-27-05 at 5:40 PM.

Lewd Activity (2 counts) / Public Intoxication (2 counts) / Criminal Trespass (2 counts): A non-UT subject flagged down an officer to report he was shocked and concerned about what he had seen in the alley on the south side of the parking garage. The subject went on to described two subjects engaged in an intimate moment. The responding officer arrived in time to become shocked and concerned himself at the sight of both subjects in all their glory. Both non-UT subjects were found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point they were a physical endangerment to themselves. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, both subjects were issued a written criminal trespass warning.

San Antonio Garage, 2420 San Antonio

Occurred on 12-28-05 at 12:20 AM.

Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found sleeping under the external stairwell located on the northwest side of the parking garage. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for failure to appear in court for a criminal offense. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Service Building, 304 East 24th Street

Occurred between 12-23-05 at 6:55 PM and 12-24-05 at 10:30 AM.

Theft: $118 in cash was stolen from a purse left inside an unsecured drawer located inside an unsecured 1st floor break room. Loss value: $118.00.

Townes Hall, 727 East Dean Keeton

Occurred between 12-31-05 at 3:00 PM and 1-1-06 at 8:45 AM.

Graffiti: Black spray paint was used to write words and draw an image on the north exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $50.00.

Union Building, #4 West Mall

Occurred on 1-1-06 at 7:40 PM.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found sleeping on the east side of the building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Walter Webb Hall, 2500 Guadalupe

Discovered on 1-2-05 at 1:15 AM.

Graffiti: Black paint and silver paint were used to write words on a traffic control sign an a fence post located on the west side of the building. A black permanent marker was used to write a word on the north exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $40.00.

200 East Dean Keeton

Reported on 12-23-05 at 12:59 PM.

Attempted Theft / Criminal Mischief: A UT student reported seeing two suspicious subjects at the bicycle racks located under the foot bridge over Dean Keeton Street. The student walked out of sight of the two subjects then stopped to listen and heard what sounded like sawing. An investigation revealed that the cable lock securing a Huffy Road Pass to a bicycle rack was partially cut. The front tire to the bicycle was missing. At this time, it is unknown if the front tire was stolen from the Huffy bicycle. The two subjects were described as black male subjects. One of the two subjects was described as being 61 tall and wearing orange sweat pants and a grey t-shirt.

300 East Dean Keeton

Occurred on 12-24-05 at 1:40 AM.

Driving While Intoxicated / Open Container in a Vehicle / Public Intoxication (2 counts) / False Report to a Police Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for swerving into and out of various lanes of traffic while driving a 1992 Toyota pick-up truck. During a field sobriety examination, the driver advised it was impossible to stand on one leg for 30 seconds and then began a Yoga demonstration. The driver then grabbed the officer by his wrist and pulled the officers watch to her face. The driver was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was driving while intoxicated. A glass containing an alcoholic beverage was found on the front floor board of the vehicle. During the stop, Austin Police Department officers arrived and advised one of the two non-UT passengers of the vehicle had called Austin 9-1-1 to report three men with guns impersonating police officers were harassing them. Both passengers were found to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages to the point they were both a physical endangerment to themselves and each other.

1800 Red River

Occurred on 12-28-05 at 2:06 AM.

Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was found staggering while he pushed a bicycle beside the roadway. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself. The subject was found to have two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants for reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.

200 West Inner Campus Drive

Occurred on 12-27-05 at 10:49 AM.

Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was stopped for speeding while driving a 2002 Honda Accord. The subject was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for a traffic violation.

214 West Martin Luther King

Occurred on 1-1-06 at 3:58 AM.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was found pulling on door knobs to an abandoned building. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Campus Wide

Occurred at various times.

Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 46 alarm calls, 63 unsecured doors, 15 requests for service, 2 medical emergency calls, 1 welfare concern report and 7 suspicious activity calls between 12-22-05 and 01-02-06.
