Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway
Occurred between 12-16-05 at 8:00 PM and 01-09-06 at 3:30 PM.
Theft: A grey and green Gary Fisher Tassaja bicycle was stolen while it was secured with a cable lock to a bicycle rack located on the south side of the building. Loss value: $540.00.
Crime Prevention Tip:
We were so close to a Campus Watch with no entries. Oh to think, I could already be enjoying a cup of coffee, but alas, the use of a cable lock alone on this one bicycle has me typing. More importantly, the victim is today wondering how he will get around campus. We should all resolve to make bike theft more difficult for thieves in 2006. At a minimum, use a u-lock to secure your bicycle. For maximum security, use a u-lock and an independently locking cable lock. To aid in the recovery of your bicycle if it is stolen, register your bicycle with the UT Parking and Transportation Services Office. This is required for all bicycles operated or parked on campus. It is free of charge and can be done on-line at: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/bicycle_register.html
Finally, help me to help others pass this information along to those who cycle on campus.
Occurred at various times.
Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 5 alarm calls, 1 unsecured door report, 1 public assist request, 1 light survey and 1 suspicious activity report between 01-09-06 and 01-10-06.
