Suspicious Activity: Two UT students, and residents of the dormitory reported a subject, who goes by the name of Troy as having gone into the dormitory on several occasions and approached several residents and asked a variety of questions including the solicitation of magazine subscriptions, supposed survey questions and inquiries as to where he could purchase marijuana. The subject reportedly yells vulgarities to students he finds attractive. The subject claims to be from San Diego and brags of a criminal history. The students have seen this subject in the dormitory on several occasions and believe he is following students through the card reader doors. The students described the subject as a white male, approximately 20 years old, 5' 4" tall, 120 pounds, blonde (possibly dyed) spiky hair, and wears dark baggy clothes, possibly a dark plaid shirt- and carries a black back pack.

Crime Prevention Tip:

This case illustrates how important it is to prevent people from following you through card reader controlled doors. This subject, by his own admission, a criminal. Do you want him in your dormitory. Do not allow people to follow you through card reader doors. Make sure you close the door behind you. If someone does follow you through such a door and you dont feel comfortable confronting that person call the police department as soon as possible and report the person as a suspicious person.

Assault by Contact: An unidentified male subject approached a female student while riding on a Capital Metro bus. The subject began to make small talk before complimenting the student on her appearance and asked her out on a date. The conversation ended when the student stated she was married. Once on the campus, the subject exited the bus behind the student and followed behind her approximately 15 feet as she walked from the 2200 block of Guadalupe to the East Mall. While on the East Mall, the subject grabbed the students right arm, leaned near to her ear and made a lewd comment. The subject let go of the students arm, but continued to walk near her as she walked to the Winship Drama Building. The subject was described as a white male, between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 6' tall, 180 pounds, medium build, blonde shoulder length hair, clean shaven wearing all black clothing and may have had a heavy chain attaching his wallet to his belt, black baseball cap, and a Discman CD player with ear buds.

Crime Prevention Tip:

By having a cell phone with you at all times, you have the ability to report suspicious people as soon as you recognize them. In this case, a call to the police department as soon as the student realized she was being followed could have led to the identification of this subject and the prevention of the assault by contact.
