Art Building and Museum, 2301 San Jacinto

Occurred on 02-15-06 between 12:20 PM and 1:50 PM.

Theft: A camera bag containing a Nikon 5200 digital camera with a Scandisk memory card and a Sony portable CD player was stolen when it was left on a desk in an unsecured 3rd floor office. Before the discovery of the theft, the empty camera bag was found and turned into a different art building office. Loss value: $500.00.

Art Building and Museum, 2301 San Jacinto

Occurred on 05-05-05.

Theft: A UT student checked out a Canon ZR80 mini DVD camcorder from the Art and Art History Department and failed to return the item after official request to do so. Loss value: $500.00.

Batts Hall, #3 South Mall

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 2:20 AM.

Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A non-UT subject, who was under the age of 21, was observed standing by a gate to a construction fence. The subject appeared to be tampering with the gate. The subject claimed he was picking leaves from a near-by bush. The subject was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages.

Jester Center Academic, 201 East 21st Street

Discovered on 02-20-06 at 2:30 AM.

Graffiti: A red permanent marker was used to write words on the south exterior wall of the building. Removal cost: $75.00.

Jester Center East, 203 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 1:22 AM.

Public Intoxication (2 counts) / Evading (2 counts) / Attempted Escape: A UT police officer observed two UT students, who were both under the age of 21, by the entrance to the dormitory. One of the two students pushed the other against the wall. When one of the students observed the approaching officer, he exclaimed, Oh (fecal matter), its the police. Both students fled on foot. When stopped, both students were found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point they were a physical endangerment to themselves and others. While seated in a patrol vehicle, one of the two students attempted to exit the vehicle through a partially rolled-down window.

Jester Center East, 203 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 1:20 AM.

Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): Responding to a report of a loud party, a UT police officer found two UT students, who were both under the age of 21, in an 8th floor dormitory room. Both students were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages.

Jester Center East, 203 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 2:14 AM.

Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was found exhibiting an extreme involuntary physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage inside a 3rd floor dormitory room. The student was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. The student refused to sign the citation and was taken into custody.

Crime Prevention Tip:

Most Class C misdemeanor offenses normally do not result in the arrest of the subject. If you refuse to sign the promise to appear in court for a Class C Misdemeanor citation, then you will be taken into custody. You are not admitting to guilt by signing a citation, you are simply promising to appear in court.

Jester Center East, 203 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 1:45 AM.

Public Intoxication / Failure to Identify: A UT student, who was under the age of 21, was reported as having a severe involuntary physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a hallway. Prior to the arrival of a police officer, the student and a companion left the dormitory. The two subjects were found near Roberts Dormitory. The student was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was a physical endangerment to herself. The student provided the officer with a fictitious date of birth. The date of birth given still did not make the student 21 years old.

Jester Center West, 201 West 21st Street

Occurred on 02-19-06 at 5:39 PM.

Disorderly Conduct (Looks into a Public Restroom) / Criminal Trespass: A UT student entered a 2nd floor womens bathroom to take a shower. While showering, she noticed the privacy curtain move. The student opened the curtain and look around to find a male subject looking at her. The subject left the restroom. An investigation revealed the subject was a non-UT acquaintance of another UT student who allowed him to enter the locked 2nd floor restroom to use the facilities. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

Kinsolving Dormitory, 2605 Whitis

Occurred on 02-19-06 between 3:05 PM and 5:55 PM.

Harassment: An unidentified subject placed five annoying telephone calls in which nothing is said to a 5th floor residents dormitory telephone.

Manor Garage, 2017 Robert Dedman

Occurred on 02-17-06 at 7:10 PM.

Criminal Trespass (3 counts): Three non-UT subjects were found soliciting the sale of t-shirts on the 4th level. All three subjects were issued written criminal trespass warnings.

Peter T. Flawn Academic Center, #2 West Mall

Discovered on 02-20-06 at 2:00 AM.

Graffiti: An unknown object was used to etch a word into three mirrors located inside a 1st floor mens restroom. Repair cost: $300.00.

Physical Plant, 1600 Manor Road

Occurred on 02-17-06 at 3:10 PM.

Theft: An unidentified subject was observed by two staff members loading a valve and pipe assembly from a scrap metal bin into the bed of her pick-up truck. The staff members left the area to report the suspicious activity. When they returned the subject and pick-up truck were gone. The subject was described as a white female in her late 30s or early 40s, approximately 56 tall with a medium build and blonde hair. The subjects vehicle was described as Chevrolet single cab pick-up truck (late 80s or early 90s model), beat up body, back cab window may have been broken out and covered with carpet, with junk in the bed of the truck.

Student Services Building, 100 West Dean Keeton

Occurred on 02-17-06 between 11:20 AM and 11:45 AM.

Theft: An Apple iPod was stolen after it was left on a copier machine inside a 5th floor office. Loss value: $300.00.

Townes Hall, 727 East Dean Keeton

Occurred between 01-27-06 and 02-16-06.

Theft: $906.00 in cash was stolen from an unsecured metal cashbox located inside a 2nd floor office.

West Mall

Occurred on 02-16-06 between 9:50 AM and 9:55 AM.

Theft: An Apple iPod and a Nikon Coolpix 3500 camera were stolen from a backpack left on the ground while the owner stood approximately 30 feet away. Loss value: $250.00.

Whitaker Fields, 51st Street and Guadalupe

Occurred on 02-19-06 at 3:56 PM.

Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported as harassing students at the fields. The subject stated he was trying to make them better softball players. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning.

300 West Dean Keeton

Occurred on 02-19-06 at 1:05 AM.

Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was stopped after nearly falling over while attempting to zip-up his jacket. The subject also had difficulty maintaining his balance while standing and walking. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself and others.

1800 Lavaca

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 3:00 AM.

Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject was stopped for running a red light while driving a Chrysler 2-door. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was driving while intoxicated. The subject was found to be in possession of a small plastic bag containing less than a gram of cocaine.

2100 Speedway

Occurred on 02-18-06 at 8:37 PM.

Aggravated Assault: A UT student, who was driving a Ford Explorer, pulled behind a Nissan which was being driven by a second UT student. The Nissan was stopped in the roadway and failed to move after the student driving the Ford honked his horn. While the Ford began to pass the Nissan, the two students exchanged words. The driver of the Nissan exited his vehicle and retrieved a shotgun from the back of his vehicle and pointed the shotgun at the other student. The gun toting student racked a live round into the shotgun before placing the gun back in his vehicle and leaving the scene. Based on the license plate of the Nissan, the student was located at an off campus apartment. A shotgun was located inside the students parked Nissan.

Crime Prevention Tip:

Road rage can have devastating results. The victim in this case was very fortunate. If you find yourself in a similar situation, do not confront the subject, simply drive by. If you want to resolve the situation, without confronting the other person, then call the police department.

200 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-09-06 between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Theft: A green mountain bicycle of an unknown make and model, was stolen while it was secured with a chain lock to a bicycle rack located on the north side of the street. Loss value: Unknown at this time.

200 East 21st Street

Occurred on 02-19-06 at 3:35 AM.

Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering up to a wall and lowering her pants. After completing her personal business, the student stumbled across the roadway where she was stopped. The subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point she was a physical endangerment to herself and others.

Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 14 alarm calls, 4 unsecured door reports, 1 welfare concern, 5 medical emergency calls, 7 public assist request2 and 4 suspicious activity reports between 02-17-06 and 02-20-06.
