This week, the Student Government has invited a variety of University Departments, public safety agencies and private organizations to The University of Texas at Austin Campus to provide information, services and materials to campus community. This has been done in an effort to provide the safest possible environment for the educational process. Today, a Transportation Safety Fair will be held on the Speedway Pedestrian Plaza (weather permitting). At this event, you will be able to register your bicycle with UT Parking and Transportation Services, have an opportunity to win a prize such as a u-lock or bicycle helmet. Representatives from several organizations will be on hand to answer questions about bicycle, vehicle, bus and airline safety and security. Tomorrow, representatives from the UT Fire Prevention Shop and the Austin Fire Department will be on campus to provide demonstrations and information on fire safety (weather permitting). You will also have an opportunity to visit a local Austin Fire Department do they really slide down a brass pole? Find out tomorrow. On Friday, representatives from the Austin Police Department will be in Parking Lot 115 to etch your vehicles VIN number into your car windows. This is an advantageous method of preventing the ever-growing auto theft rates. Occurred between 02-16-06 at approximately 12 noon and 02-17-06 at 1:15 PM.

Theft: A Compaq Presario 2160 laptop computer was stolen from a 1st floor storage room of the Commons Building. Loss value: $1,800.00.

Parking Lot 38, 2200 Red River

Discovered on 02-21-06.

Criminal Mischief: A vehicle wheel immobilizer was damaged in an apparent attempt to remove the immobilizer from the tire of a parked Dodge van. Repair cost: $150.00.

Tower Manor, 1908 University

Discovered on 02-11-06 at 12:11 PM.

Criminal Mischief: An unknown subject(s) broke a small hole out of an exterior 1st floor window located on the southwest side of the building. Repair cost: $75.00.

1904 University

Discovered on 02-22-06 at 12:05 PM.

Graffiti: A black permanent marker was used to write a word on an exterior wall of an abandoned building. Removal cost: $35.00.

Occurred at various times.

Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 5 alarm calls, 5 unsecured door reports, 1 medical emergency call, 3 public assist requests and 2 suspicious activity reports between 02-22-06 and 02-23-06.
