Recovered Stolen Property: The University of Texas Police Department's criminal investigators were able to develop a strong suspect in the theft cases from Gregory Gym. A search / arrest warrant was issued for a current UT student earlier last week. This arrest led to the recovery of stolen property and clearance of a number of cases. Additional charges are pending.
Goldsmith Hall, #5 West Mall
Occurred between 4-27-06 at 1:30 AM and 4-28-06 at 3:45 AM.
Theft: A wallet containing two credit cards and $20.00 was stolen from an unsecured studio. Loss value: $ 30.00.
Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway
On going since 03-01-06.
Harassment: A UT student reported receiving several unwanted telephone calls, e-mails, and e-messages from her ex-boyfriend, also identified as a UT student. While at the Gregory Gym swimming pool the suspect showed up and wanted the victim to clean his goggles. The victim left the area.
Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway
Occurred on 4-26-06 between 8:00 AM and 11:59 AM.
Theft: The front tire of a Bontrage mountain bicycle was stolen after the bicycle was secured to the bike rake located on the west side of the building. Loss value: $ 35.00.
J.J. "Jake" Pickle Research Campus, 10100 Burnet Rd.
Occurred on 4-27-06 at 3:17 AM.
Driving While Intoxicated: An unauthorized UT student attempted to enter on to the Pickle Research Campus after hours. The subject was pulling a trailer with defective lights and break lights. The UT staff member controlling entry onto the campus detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver's breath and told the UT police officer that was waiting to enter onto the campus as well. The vehicle was stopped and during the investigation officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about the driver's person. In plain view officers observed several empty alcohol bottles in the bed and passenger compartment of the vehicle. After conducting a standard field sobriety test officers determined that the UT student was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
Music Recital Hall, 2405 Trinity
Occurred on 4-25-06 between 11:35 AM and 11:45 AM.
Theft: A lime green wallet containing six credit cards, personal identification, and $15.00 in cash was stolen from an unsecured 6th floor practice room. During the investigation several UT students observed an unknown subject attempting to gain access into a locked percussion room located on the same floor at 9:30 AM. The subject was seen leaving the 6th floor area through the north east stairwell. Subject is described as: Black male, 35-40 years of age, 6'00" thin build, wearing a beard. Subject was last seen wearing a solid colored baggy t-shirt and pants. He was dirty in appearance. Loss value: $20.00.
San Jacinto Residence Hall, 309 East 21st Street
Occurred on 4-26-06 at 4:46 PM.
Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported observing a subject on the east side of the dormitory photographing the third floor area of the building with a telephoto lens. The subject was described as: White male in his 20's, with shaggy dark hair. He was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt and blue jeans.
Occurred at various times.
Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 10 alarm calls, 5 unsecured door reports, and 2 suspicious activities reports between 04-26-06 and 04-27-06.
