I received a few e-mails with regards to the APD link for the crime stats. I was unaware that the link did not work prior to sending out yesterday's issue of the Campus Watch, for that I am sorry. A Campus Watch subscriber sent me the correct link, for which I am very grateful. Thank you. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/crimeinformation.htm

Attempted Theft: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject hitting a bicycle lock with a heavy tool. The staff member then saw a UT police bicycle officer in the area and got his attention. The officer began pursuing the suspect. The suspect attempted to hide behind a large planter box located at the Texas Employee Retirement Center. When stopped, the suspect stated that he had found the bicycle unsecured and needed it to get home. During the investigation, the officer determined that the bicycle was still secured to the bike rack with a U-shaped locked. The bicycle had sustained damage due to the method the suspect had employed in attempting to remove the lock.
Crime Prevention Tip:
Congratulations to the staff member who notified our department about the attempted bicycle theft. His notification led to an arrest. The University of Texas Police Department will be making arrangements to deliver a FREE PIZZA of his choosing.

Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed sitting inside a parked car located along the west curb line. When the subject saw the police officer, she quickly got out of her car and slumped against the side. She fell over the curb while trying to step up onto the sidewalk. When the officer attempted to stop her she continued to stagger away, looking over her shoulder. When she finally stopped, the subject told the officer that she was not going anywhere. During the investigation, the officer observed that the subject had bloodshot eyes and a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath. It was determined that the subject was a danger to herself and to others.
