Occurred on 5-30-06, between 11:21 AM and 11:45 AM.
Theft: A backpack, containing an Apple iPod was stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor classroom. The reporting person searched the area and located his backpack inside the stairwell next to the classroom, minus the iPod. Loss value: $100.00.
Peter T. Flawn Academic Center, #2 West Mall
Occurred between: 5-18-06 and 5-24-06.
Theft: A grey Dell Latitude laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured 2nd floor office. Loss value: $2000.00.
1500 Block Manor Road
Occurred between: 5-28-06, at 12:01 PM and 5-30-06, at 7:35 AM.
Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver's side window of a 2001 Chevy truck was discovered broken out and a Hiltil hammer drill was stolen. Loss value: $2000.00.
Crime Prevention Tip:
In today's issue of the Campus Watch the thief or thieves had a fairly substantial payday, $4,100.00. Out of all the items stolen, only one had any unique or owner applied number. Thieves understand the importance of an owner applied number. In many cases, an owner applied number was the key to their conviction. Police departments around the country investigate thousands of thefts and burglaries each year. In many of those cases the former owners had forgot or failed to mark their personal property with their State issued driver's license number. The University of Texas Police Department promotes Operation ID, which aiding in the recovery of stolen property.
