EMPLOYEE LENGTH OF SERVICE RECOGNITION

Section I. General Policy Guidelines

A. Policy Statement

The University recognizes the importance of the contributions of loyal and committed staff to the continuing success of the University.

B. Scope

This policy applies to Classified and Administrative and Professional (A&P) staff appointed to work at least twenty (20) hours per week and who have been employed in eligible positions for a minimum of ten (10) years for The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas System Administration, or other component institutions of the UT System.

C. Definitions

Eligible service is accrued in monthly increments: one month of service is given for each month or fraction of a month of an active appointment in a classified or A&P title. Eligible service is computed through May 31 of the award year. Leave without pay status is not included in eligible service. Military leave with pay status is included to determine eligible service.

D. Criteria

Service awards are presented to employees in recognition of length of service. An employee receives his or her first service award for ten (10) years of eligible service. Thereafter, the employee receives service awards in five-year intervals as eligible service accrues.

Human Resource Services will determine which employees are to be recognized during that service award year, based on the eligible service criteria. A campus-wide program may be sponsored by the University to recognize employees who receive length of service recognition.

E. Departmental Recognition

In addition to University-wide recognition, departments are encouraged to recognize their staff members receiving annual service awards in some appropriate way. Employee Length of Service awards shall not be in excess of fifty dollars ($50.00) per employee and are limited to engraved certificates, plaques, pins and other similar items.

For Assistance: Questions regarding annual service recognition should be directed to the Human Resource Services, Compliance and Campus Relations Section, or to web site: http://www.utexas.edu/hr/.
