A. Policy Statement
The University of Texas at Austin provides paid administrative leave to an employee who is a foster parent to a child under the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services conservatorship to attend meetings in accordance with state law.
B. Scope
This policy applies to any employee who is appointed to work at least twenty (20) hours per week for a period of at least four and one-half (4 1/2) continuous months. For purposes of this policy, faculty must be appointed for at least fifty percent (50%) time for at least four and one-half (4 1/2) continuous months. Students employed in positions that require student status as a condition of employment are not covered by this policy.
C. Qualified Purposes
Eligible employees will receive foster parent leave to attend:
- Meetings held by the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services regarding the employee's foster child, or
- An Admission, Review, and Dismissal meeting held by a school district regarding the employee's foster child.
D. Employee Responsibilities
The employee shall obtain prior approval from the supervisor to take foster parent leave, and promptly and accurately record the use of leave.
E. Supervisor Responsibilities
The supervisor must review and approve the leave, verify that the employee has accurately recorded the leave use, and sign the time report.
F. Delegation of Authority
Authority is hereby delegated to the department head or designee to determine foster parent leave eligibility and approve use of leave.
