CHAPTER 2 - ADMINISTRATION
Sec. 2. Officers of Administration
- I. Executive Officers
- A. President. The President is the chief administrative officer of The University and directly reports to and is responsible to the Chancellor.
- B. Vice Presidents. The Executive Vice President and Provost, the Vice President for Administration, the Vice President for Business Affairs, the Vice President for Development and University Relations, the Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies, the Vice President for Student Affairs, and other persons who may carry the title of Vice President are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the President.
- II. Principal Administrative Officers
- A. The Deans, the Director of Internal Audit, and the Executive Assistant to the President are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the President.
- B. The Vice Provost(s), the Associate Vice President in the office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Assistant Vice President in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Director of the Measurement and Evaluation Center, the Director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, the Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects, the Director of the Texas Memorial Museum, and the Director of Research Units (those not assigned to a College or School) are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Executive Vice President and Provost.
- C. The Associate Vice President for Business Affairs, the Associate Vice President and Business Manager, the Associate Vice President for Budget and Institutional Studies, the Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs, the Manager of the Faculty Center, the Director of Personnel Services and Employee Relations, the Director of Physical Plant, the Director of the Erwin Center, the Director of the Texas Swimming Center, the Chief of University Police, the Director of the Winedale Historical Center, and the Assistant(s) to the Vice President for Business Affairs are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Vice President for Business Affairs.
- D. The Director of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the Officer of the Equal Employment Opportunity Office, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for Men, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, and the Assistant Vice President for Administration are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Vice President for Administration.
- E. The Associate Vice President for University Relations, the Director of the News and Information Service, and the Coordinator of University Publications are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Vice President for Development and University Relations.
- F. The Associate Dean(s) of the Graduate School, the Director of the General Libraries, the Director of the University Press, and the Assistant Dean(s) of the Graduate School are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies.
- G. The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs; the Dean of Students; the Director of Admissions; the Registrar; the Director of Counseling, Learning and Career Services; the Director of the Student Health Center; the Director of Housing and Food Services; the Director of the International Programs; the General Manager of Texas Student Publications; the Director of Recreational Sports; the Director of Student Financial Aid; the Director of the Texas Union; and the Assistant Vice President(s) for Student Affairs are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
- H. The Associate and Assistant Dean(s) of all colleges and schools, the Department Chairpersons of all academic departments, the Directors of all research units (those not assigned to the Executive Vice President and Provost), and the Directors of all academic centers are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the dean of the school or college to which the department or unit is assigned.
- I. The Director of Accounting, the Director of Data Processing, the Director of Purchasing, the Manager of University Supply and Mail Service, and the Manager of the University Printing Division are administrative officers of the University, and each such officer directly reports to and is responsible to the Associate Vice President and Business Manager.
- J. The Director of the Office of Institutional Studies is an administrative officer of the University and directly reports to and is responsible to the Associate Vice President for Budget and Institutional Studies.
- K. In addition to the administrative officers specifically designated by this policy, any administrative or professional (1000 code) employee whose duties and responsibilities are equivalent to those of a Vice President, Dean, Department Chairperson, or Director is an administrative officer of the University, and his or her term of appointment shall be in accordance with Sec. 2.III.B (below).
- III. Appointment and Term of Appointment of Administrative Officers
- A. The Board of Regents selects the President of The University in accordance with procedures prescribed by the Board and stated under Part One, Chapter II, Section 4, Regents' Rules and Regulations. The President directly reports to and is responsible to the Chancellor. The President serves without fixed term, subject to the pleasure of the Chancellor and with approval of the Board.
- B. The Board has delegated to the Chancellor and the Chancellor has delegated to the President the responsibility for the appointment and dismissal of all other administrative officers of the University, including vice presidents, deans, directors, department chairpersons, and their equivalents. All such administrative officers serve without fixed terms and subject to the pleasure of the President; however, for vice presidents, deans, directors, and their equivalents, prior approval of the Chancellor is necessary for each such appointment and for each such dismissal whether from a permanent or acting appointment.
