CHAPTER 9 - PERSONNEL - CLASSIFIED
Sec. 9.08. Definition of Terms
- Defined below are words and phrases as assigned concerning all personnel policies, procedures, and transactions within the classified service of The University.
- Demotion
- A demotion is an involuntary change in duty assignment of an employee in one classification to a position in another classification with a lower minimum rate of pay.
- Position
- A group of current duties and responsibilities assigned or delegated by competent authority, that requires the full or part-time employment of one person.
- Probation
- Refer to Sec. 9.45.
- Promotion
- A change in duty assignment of an employee from a position in one classification to a position in another classification with a higher minimum rate of pay.
- Regular Employee
- An employee compensated on a monthly, weekly or hourly basis for four and one-half months or more and appointed to work 20 or more hours per week as part of the regular working force of The University.
- Suspension
- a. With Pay:
- A temporary removal from the position to which theemployee was appointed, without a resulting loss of pay. Generally, this action is taken to allow for investigation.
- b. Without Pay:
- A temporary removal from the position to which the employee was appointed, with a resulting loss of pay. Generally, this is a disciplinary action.
- Transfer
- A change in duty assignment of an employee from one position to another position (in the same or different classification) with the same minimum rate of pay.
- Trainee
- An employee whose initial period of employment is for the purpose of training to the level of skill or experience required by the offical University job description for a particular classification. For information regarding salary for an employee in a "trainee status," see Section 9.28.
