CHAPTER 3. FACULTY AND ACADEMICS

The University of Texas at Austin Policy Memorandum 3.210
Office of the President January 23, 1974

Subject: RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS

Section 25 of the Regents' Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter III, states the University policy regarding textbooks and other materials prescribed for use of students.

Although individual instructors or departments should have wide discretion in their choice of textbooks and other course materials, frequent changes should be discouraged. Thus, if it is necessary to make changes within the first year of adoption, a letter setting forth the reasons must be submitted through the dean for approval by the President (see Section 25.21).

Before a faculty-authored textbook or other course material may be prescribed or sold for the use of students at the University, the request must be submitted to the President for his approval and inclusion in the next regular docket for the Board of Regents. A form for such request is for sale at University Supply and Mail Service. Authorization is effective only to the end of the fiscal year for which approval is given.
