CHAPTER 6. UNIVERSITY FACILITIES AND SERVICES

University of Texas at Austin Policy Memorandum 6.505
Office of the President September 27, 1994 (Revised August 30, 2005)

Subject: ELECTRONIC CAMPUS-WIDE EVENTS CALENDAR (*EVENTS)

The University of Texas at Austin supports an electronic campus-wide events calendar system known as *EVENTS, as part of the Administrative Computing function. *EVENTS is intended to provide University Departments with a simple, centralized mechanism to announce and describe their events to the public via campus-wide computer systems.

Members of the public may view events listed in *EVENTS through any of several computer applications connected to the campus-wide networks. Only properly authorized personnel, however, may add or update event information as described in this policy.

*EVENTS is not a scheduling system. Although events can be entered into *EVENTS stating a particular location, date and time, scheduling of the location must still be done through channels other than *EVENTS.

Any University office or department may become authorized to add and update events in *EVENTS by contacting the Data Processing Department. In the process of being authorized, each office or department will designate its own internal contact for *EVENTS who will be instructed in use of the system. Departmental contacts may authorize other personnel in their office or department to add and update *EVENTS.

Persons adding or updating events in the *EVENTS system are responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of those entries. *EVENTS is intended to provide information ONLY on University-related events which are sponsored by The University office or department entering the event. The content of events listed in *EVENTS must be intended and suitable for the general public.

Information to be entered in *EVENTS by the departmental personnel must be reviewed for accuracy and appropriateness before it is allowed to be viewe by the public.

Use of *EVENTS to enter or add events is subject to The University of Texas System Business Procedure Memorandum BPM 53. By adding or updating information in *EVENTS, personnel acknowledge their awareness of and concurrence with the above policy and with BPM 53 on Information Resources Use and Security Policy.

Employees of The University who violate the provisions of this policy will be subject to discipline and/or dismissal under applicable University regulations.
