Staff Recognition Program

Thank you, Vice President Clubb. Good afternoon, everyone. We are here today to honor those staff members who have arrived at milestones in their careers. And those who have shown exemplary service to the University. We thank you all for what you do. You are the people who make The University of Texas a unique and enjoyable place in which to work.
- You provide invaluable support to faculty, students, future students and their families, the administration, and fellow staff members.
- You make our campus safe, efficient, functional, attractive, and accessible to the larger society.
- You make it possible for the University to fulfill its responsibilities to teach, to research, and to serve the public. You are the backbone of our institution, and we are fortunate to call you our colleagues.
The University of Texas at Austin is a complex enterprise. It takes 16,000 staff members, with hundreds of different skills, to make this campus the special environment that it is. For many, this campus symbolizes the very best -- the best educational opportunity, the most reliable expertise, the highest aspirations of our state. That didn't happen by accident. You are all an integral part of our success.
So on behalf of the entire University community, I thank you all for your outstanding contributions. Your work is important to our institution, whether you are a building attendant, librarian, systems analyst – or a former head football coach who won two national championships. Yes, Darrell Royal is being honored today for 45 years of service! Where are you, coach?
Now how about a round of applause for everyone sitting around you! You've all reached a personal milestone this year, so let's hear some appreciation for the many years of service represented here!
I also want to congratulate the recipients of this year's President's Excellence Awards, Outstanding Supervisor Awards, and Staff Service Awards. You have raised the level of professionalism on our campus and you deserve the highest recognition. Thank you!
And finally, I want to give my wholehearted support of the Staff Council. The Staff Council plays an invaluable role in representing your interests to the administration. So support your district representatives. Make your concerns known to them. Insist that they listen to your issues. Send your compliments to me – and your complaints to them.
I applaud all of you who are celebrating your service to UT this year. I value what you do every day to make this one of the best universities in the nation. Thank you for work well done.
