The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center was founded as a site for research and education and has become not only one of the nation's most beautiful botanical gardens, but a leader in promoting the environmental, economic, and aesthetic benefits of native plants. This new partnership between the Center and The University of Texas at Austin will benefit both institutions.
We intend to carry on Lady Bird Johnson's wonderful legacy of conservation and educate the public about the tremendous value of native plants. She once said, “Wildflowers are the stuff of my heart.” Her tireless work to beautify America touched the heart of an entire nation. She spread beauty and joy along the roadsides and greenbelts of this country, inspiring generations of children and their parents to appreciate the magnificence of nature. Her selfless act of generosity taught us about good taste, about aesthetics, and about care. It made everyone in this state proud that Mother Nature is a Texan. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson.
