UT Remembers
Excerpts of Remarks by Larry R. Faulkner

Goldsmith Hall Courtyard
The University of Texas at Austin
One of the important roles of a community is to recognize the life events of its members. Births, anniversaries, good news, achievements--as well as the disappointments and sadness.
We all do this in scores of ways every day on this campus. UT Remembers provides an opportunity for our community to come together to commemorate publicly those who have died during this past year.
The Goldsmith Hall courtyard has always been a corner of tranquility--tucked away only a few steps from the vibrant center of our campus. I am pleased that we are able to gather here for this occasion.
Ours is a large community made up of many smaller, interwoven communities. As we work and study and learn together, our lives are enriched by the people around us.
This evening, the Tower will be darkened in memory of those we honor today.
As we pause to hear the names of those who are no longer here, let us call to mind an enduring memory--or a bright moment together. For the highest honor we can bestow upon the dead is to remember them in life.
