Self-Portrait Collage
Using Photoshop

 1. Using a Digital Camera, take a self-portrait photograph in an area that shows pattern and/or texture.

2. Open photograph in the Photoshop software and save as a JPEG.

3. Copy the photograph and paste it into a new page.

4. Go to Edit / Free Transform and shrink photograph as desired. (Hold shift key down while doing this so that there will be no distortion of the image.)

5. Search the Internet to find 4 to 8 objects that represent you and your personality. Copy and paste objects to page and transform to desired size.

6. Arrange and re-transform objects as needed to create a desirable composition.

7. To create transparency to the desired edges of objects follow these steps.

a) Click on layer that represents the object to be rendered

b) On the tool bar, click on the gradient tool

c) On the layer box, click on the bottom left icon to take photograph of the object in that layer.

 

d) Click inside object and drag out past the edge of the image to become transparent. If effect is not desirable, choose Edit and Undo. When satisfied, Drag the photocopy of image in the layer to the trash & click apply. * Be careful not to trash the layer. If layer has been trashed then choose Edit and Undo.

e) Repeat these steps as needed to complete composition.
