SSN Remediation Project

The goal of the SSN Remediation Project is to enhance the privacy of the university's students, faculty, staff and other constituents by modifying its business procedures and electronic systems to:

Reduce the use and collection of Social Security numbers
Inform individuals when the university collects Social Security numbers
Reduce the public display of Social Security numbers
Control access to Social Security numbers
Protect Social Security numbers with security safeguards
Establish accountability for protecting the confidentiality of Social Security numbers

The University of Texas System Board of Regents recognizes the importance of the issues related to Social Security numbers and has issued a System-wide policy for the use of Social Security numbers.

This project coordinates the implementation of changes required to comply with the university's SSN Rules of Conduct, SSN Security Plan, and UT System Policy UTS165 (formerly BPM 66).
