The University of Texas Elementary School is the first university charter school in the state of Texas. The University operates the school, with direct oversight delegated to the UT Elementary School Management Board. The school will have two advisory boards:
A University Faculty Advisory Council has been established to involve faculty from the UT Austin Colleges of Education, Natural Sciences, Fine Arts, Humanities, and the Schools of Nursing, Social Work, and Architecture in the planning and design of the school.
A Community Advisory Council will be established to enlist the advice and support of community leaders in East Austin.

Dr. Ramona Trevino - Principal, CEO UTES

Principal Dr. Ramona Trevino has more than 20 years experience as an educator. Before coming to the UT Elementary School in June 2003, she served as principal of Zilker Elementary School, which under her leadership became designated as a Texas Exemplary School and a National Blue Ribbon School. Trevino worked as an administrator in Austin Independent School District for 17 years, and also as an educator in the Hayes Consolidated School District, the Klein School District, the Department of Defense Schools, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Wheelock College in Boston and her Ph.D. in 2006 in Educational Policy and Planning from the College of Education at UT Austin.

Melissa Chavez - Principal, Head of School

Principal Melissa Chavez worked as a teacher in Austin ISD for 10 years before becoming an administrator, serving as assistant to the associate superintendent for Austin ISD.  In 2003 she started as the assistant principal for UT Elementary School before becoming Principal in 2007. Melissa has a master’s degree in Educational Administration and is currently a doctoral student at The University of Texas at Austin. Melissa is the proud wife of Charles Soto and mother of Malcolm Soto, a current UT Elementary School student.
