ARCHITECTURE
Annual Award for Outstanding Teacher
A joint faculty/student committee receives nominations from students
& faculty and selects a faculty member using the following criteria:
teacher dedication, curriculum vitae, student evaluations, and letters
of recommendation from faculty, colleagues or former students. Cash

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Joe D. Beasley Teaching Excellence Award
Designed to recognize teaching excellence in the Masters of Business
Administration (MBA) Program. A Faculty Selection Committee appointed
by the Dean makes the final selection from the faculty of the Graduate
School of Business who have taught or are teaching MBA core courses.

College of Business Administration Foundation
Advisory Council Award for Teaching Innovation
Designed to honor CBA faculty members who have demonstrated innovation
in teaching including technique and content of methodology. The
selection is made by a Faculty Selection Committee which is appointed

College of Business Administration Foundation
Award for Excellence in Education
*Effective 2000-01, the CBA Foundation Award for Excellence in Education
was combined with the Jack Taylor Teaching Excellence Award to form
one award, The Excellence in Education Award. This award recognized
teaching excellence and significant contributions made to education
over an extended career period. It was awarded to senior faculty
members and focused on career-long accomplishments. The decision
was made by a Faculty Selection Committee which was appointed by

Excellence in Education Award
Effective 2000-01, the Jack Taylor Teaching Excellence Award
was combined with the CBA Foundation Award for Excellence in Education
to form one award. The Excellence in Education Award was first presented
in 2000-01. This award is offered in alternate years. Cash award.

Fred Moore Assistant Instructor Award for Teaching
Excellence
The purpose of this award is to recognize and reward teaching
excellence among the Assistant Instructors of the McCombs School
of Business. A Faculty Selection Committee appointed by the Dean

Hank & Mary Harkins Foundation Teaching Excellence
Award
This award was designed to honor faculty members holding the rank
of Assistant Professor or higher who teach large undergraduate classes;
who have demonstrated effective and innovative teaching through
use of multi-media or special materials; and who motivate and inspire
students. This faculty member is chosen annually by a Faculty Selection
Committee appointed by the Dean. Cash award. Past

Jack C. Taylor Teaching Excellence Award
*Effective 2000-01, the Jack Taylor Teaching Excellence Award was
combined with the CBA Foundation Award for Excellence in Education
to form one award, The Excellence in Education Award. This was a
senior teaching excellence award for members of the faculty who
had demonstrated teaching excellence. The decision was made by a
Faculty Selection Committee which was appointed by the Dean. Cash

Trammell College of Business Administration
(CBA) Foundation Teaching Award for Assistant Professors
Designed to encourage and recognize teaching excellence by an Assistant
Professor as evidenced by their service to the department and the
College, based on participation in course instructor surveys, written
peer evaluations, and evidence of conformity with academic rules
and procedures. Nominations from department chairmen will be forwarded
to the Dean who will appoint a committee of tenured faculty to make
recommendations. The Dean and the Chairman of Awards Committee of
the CBA Foundation Advisory Council will make recommendations to
the full membership of the CBA Foundation Advisory Council. Approval
will be decided by the majority vote of the CBA council as a whole.

Fawn and Vijay Mahajan Teaching Excellence Award
for Executive Education
This award recognizes outstanding contributions to Executive Education
non-degree programs and will be granted to a member of the McCombs
School faculty who demonstrates remarkable performance and commitment
in teaching, contribution to Executive Education programs, and contribution
to business development. The recipient is selected by the Faculty
Selection committee appointed by the Dean. Cash award. Past

COMMUNICATION
The Teaching Excellence Award of the College of
Communication Foundation Advisory Council
Students or faculty may nominate any faculty member in the College
of Communication. All nominees that are contacted are requested
to provide student evaluations for the past 4 semesters and asked
to submit a statement of contribution to the field of communication.
The selection is made by a committee of faculty & students representing
all departments which is appointed by the Dean. Cash award. Past

Dean's Distinguished Faculty Award
Selection is made by a college-wide committee to award outstanding
teaching, research, and service. Cash award. Past

Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award
Departments solicit from students and faculty nominations for tenured
faculty members to recognize distinguished records of teaching,
at the undergraduate or graduate level, sending forward to the Dean

ENGINEERING
Engineering Foundation Faculty Award (This
award was discontinued)
Ten awards are presented annually to faculty who demonstrate leadership
in developing programs of distinction, exhibit excellence in teaching,
demonstrate research competence, provide research & development
funds, and give generously of professional time for administration
& counseling. Nominees are recommended to the Engineering Foundation
Advisory Council Board of Grants recommendations by the department
chairmen & the dean. Cash award. Past

Engineering Foundation Awards for Outstanding
Engineering Teaching by an Assistant Professor
Nominees for must hold the rank of Assistant Professor and be planning
to teach in the College of Engineering in the coming year. The award
requires a demonstration of teaching effectiveness based on course/instructor
surveys, a concern for students, and the ability to impart knowledge
while challenging students to independent inquiry. Nominations can
be submitted by any engineering student or member of the faculty.
A College Selection Committee then makes recommendation to Dean

Joe J. King Professional Engineering Achievement
Award
Designed to honor a faculty member of College of Engineering with
the rank of Assistant Professor or above, who shows leadership in
advancing the profession of engineering. Nominations are made by
the faculty and members of the practicing engineering profession.
Nominations are then screened by the department Budget Council and
reviewed by a committee chaired by the Dean. Cash award. Past

The Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Award
for Excellence in Engineering Teaching
Designed to honor an outstanding faculty member who has dedicated
time and energy in abundance to teaching undergraduate and graduate
students. The nominees are selected by faculty and students and
submitted by the Department Committee Chairmen to a College Selection
Committee which makes recommendation to the Dean for approval. Cash

FINE ARTS
College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award
The College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes one faculty
member per year who has demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate
and undergraduate level. This is the College's most prestigious teaching award.

Department/School Teaching Excellence Awards
The College of Fine Arts recognizes excellent teaching through the Departmental
and School Teaching Excellence Awards. There are two recipients per year in
each department/school who receive a cash award. Recipients are officially
recognized during the spring commencement ceremony. Past Recipients

Three awards are presented annually, ordinarily the award is given
to a faculty member in each of the three academic departments in
the College of Fine Arts. The recipients are chosen by the student

University Co-op Fine Arts Award
The University Co-op Fine Arts Award of $3,000 provides annual recognition
for outstanding UT Austin faculty achievement in the visual and
performing arts. Excellence in the creative enterprises is measured
in ways unique to these fields, and this award is intended to ensure
that those who contribute to their artistic disciplines in superior

Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Graduate School
Designed to honor one faculty member annually for outstanding
teaching at the graduate level and distinctive contributions
toward helping graduate students achieve professional goals and

LBJ SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS
LBJ Foundation Excellence Award (This award
was discontinued)
This annual award for teaching or staff excellence is based on teaching
evaluations and the discretion of the Dean. The award is funded
by the LBJ Foundation and may be awarded to one individual or be

LIBERAL ARTS
Liberal Arts Council Teaching Award
Nominees must be full-time members of the Liberal Arts faculty and
must have completed at least two years of teaching with the title
of Lecturer, Sr. Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor,
or Professor. Nominations can be submitted by any UT student to
a Selection Committee which is appointed by students on the Liberal
Arts Council. The Dean of the College selects the winner from the

Maxine Hairston Prize for Excellence in Teaching
(Division of Rhetoric and Composition)
Assistant Instructors in the Division of Rhetoric and Composition
are nominated by students, faculty, and staff. Final selection is
made by a committee of three faculty and previous winners of the

Chad Oliver Plan II Teaching Excellence Award
Nominees must be full-time faculty who have taught in Plan II and
completed at least 2 years of teaching with a title of Lecturer,
Sr. Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
Nominations may be submitted by any Plan II student to a selection
committee that is appointed by the Plan II Director. Cash award.

Harry Ransom Award for Teaching Excellence
This award is presented annually to recognize teaching excellence.
Nominations may be submitted to the student/faculty selection committee
by any student or faculty member. Nominees must be full-time members
of the Liberal Arts faculty and must have completed at least two
years of teaching with the title of Lecturer, Sr. Lecturer, Assistant
Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The award rotates
between tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty. Cash award. Past

Board of Visitors Teaching Award - Department
of Astronomy
Designed to recognize outstanding instruction in all elements of
teaching that focus on astronomy majors at undergraduate and graduate
levels. The Department chairman and the two chairmen of the graduate
and undergraduate studies committees and past recipients of the
award, make the selection from nominations provided by faculty,
graduate students, and undergraduate astronomy majors. Cash award.

Designed to recognize outstanding teaching accomplishments,
primarily at the undergraduate level. The recipient is selected
by a vote of the students of the College of Natural Sciences with

One or two recipients are selected annually by a Review Committee

Teaching Award (established 1973)
This award recognizes superior teaching to geology majors at all
levels. The recipient is selected via secret ballot submitted by
sophomore geology students or students who have taken GEO 320K.

Fellowship in Mathematics
To recognize excellence in teaching & research. The Budget Committee
selects a nominee from a pool of all Associate and Assistant Professors.

The recipients are selected through student body nominations. The
final decision is made by the Pharmacy Council and the student body

SOCIAL WORK
Lora Lee Pederson Teaching Award in the School
of Social Work
Based on evidence of teaching effectiveness, development of innovative
teaching and introduction of new techniques, i.e., course/Instructor
surveys, colleague appraisal, and excellence of student guidance
activities. The Executive Committee with the Dean's final approval
selects recipient from nominations submitted. Only full-time faculty
members who are teaching at the School, field instructors, both
