Computer Life Cycle Program Guidelines
The Computer Life-Cycle (CLC) Program was created in Fall 2000 to provide a recurring source of institutional funding for replacement of computer equipment for faculty at UT Austin. These institutional funds were used to support the computer needs of tenured, tenure-track and/or non-tenure track faculty. Colleges and schools were required to provide matching funds up to at least 25% of the institutional CLC allocation and Information Technology Services (ITS) handled the procurement of CLC computers.
As of September 2005, procurement and management of CLC has been transferred to the individual colleges/schools. Institutional funds have been transferred permanently to the budgets of the colleges/schools and they are expected to continue to provide matching funds to at least 25% of the institutional allocation. The college/school matching funds may be contributed from any appropriate source, including research and endowment accounts.
Each college/school is now responsible for determining and purchasing the optimal computer systems to fit the needs of their faculty. The "Tech" Deans in the larger colleges/schools will work with the smaller colleges/schools to provide them access to their volume discounts. In addition, the "Tech" Deans and the Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer will work to further leverage the University's purchasing power with the major computer suppliers.
